"Fox News Channel crushed MSNBC and CNN yet again during the busy news month of October, topping both networks combined among total viewers.

FNC averaged 1.7 million total viewers to finish as the most-watched basic cable network for the 28th straight month. Rupert Murdoch’s cable news network also topped all of basic cable during the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m. ET for the fifth consecutive month despite heavy competition from Major League Baseball playoffs and other major sporting events, such as NFL and NBA games.

Fox News averaged 2.8 million primetime viewers as ESPN averaged 2.7 million and TBS picked up 2.5 million to round out the top three. MSNBC finished fourth, averaging 1.5 million primetime viewers and CNN finished a dismal ninth while failing to crack the one-million viewer plateau and finishing behind networks such as Hallmark Channel and HGTV.

In the total day category, only Fox News averaged more than 1 million viewers with ESPN, MSNBC, Nickelodeon and TBS rounding out the top five. CNN averaged 689,000 viewers as its audience continues to shrink – dropping five percent compared to the same week last year while both FNC and MSNBC gained viewers.

FNC was up across the board compared to last year, with the biggest increase being a whopping 25 percent gain in primetime. In addition to the five percent drop in total audience, CNN fell 16 percent in the key demo of adults age 25-54.

“Hannity” averaged 3.5 million viewers to finish the month as the most-watched program on cable news, followed by “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” “The Ingraham Angle,” “The Five” and “Special Report with Bret Baier.” “Hannity” has now finished first for seven straight months. MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” finished sixth, averaging 2.6 million viewers." Brian Flood, TV Audience Review.

In other news, studies show more Americans eat at McDonalds than Michelin-Star restaurants, and more Americans read Harlequin Romances than literary classics.

Democrats aren't watching TV, they are busy organizing and early voting
so the end of this national nightmare can finally begin. Young people,
women, people of color, moderates, so many Americans are fed up with

Fox has a huge ratings advantage from the get-go because they really dumb down their broadcasts for the "common man" with common intelligence (think people like Irish Mike and firkin).

Also, right-wingers ALWAYS seek nothing but confirmation of their beliefs (extreme confirmation bias), so they watch Fox exclusively. Left-wing people tend to want to hear both sides of every issue so they can use facts and logic to decide which is correct. That means they watch centrist and left-leaning news channels like CNN and MSNBC, and Fox News to get the other side of the story. That's another huge ratings advantage. Fox has a lot of left-leaning occasional viewers. Occasionally, right-wingers can shock you by making a good point. It's incredibly rare, but it's the sort of rarity a left-wing person wants to be able to consider, not ignore.

Because of football, you fucking idiot. As far as news: “NBC nightly News is the most watched news is the world.”

“NBC Nightly News’ Caps Historic week as Most Watched evening Newscast”

"NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt" is the most-
watched evening news broadcast in the key news
demo for the week of June 11, according to Nielsen
Media Research data.”

The broadcast continues its strong performance in the key demo, averaging 1.6 million A25-54 viewers and beating “ABC World News Tonight” by +16,000 viewers (+1%) and “CBS Evening News” by +482,000 viewers (+44%). “Nightly News” has won the demo 4 out of the last 7 weeks and was the only broadcast to grow week-over-week in the key demo.

Trump is right about one thing, fear motivates people, and a lot of
people are terrifed of what America is becoming under Trump. I predicted

Why is Fox News allowed to call itself a news channel, when it's clearly a biased entertainment channel & a megaphone for hatred?

10 Answers:

They can call themselves whatever they like. In the US, there is no legislation covering this. They are a Cable TV entertainment channel, no different than A&E, or The Hallmark Channel, or The Weather Channel, or Investigation Doscovery, or SyFy, or HGTV.

In the US, for better or worse, the FCC decided not to in any way regulate Cable entertainment channels, when cable TV exploded in the late 1970s and 1980s. Those new entertainment networks or entertainment “channels” were not being sent out over the broadcast airways, as radio was, or traditional broadcast TV.

So, there is really no regulation at all. The theory at the time was that “customers were choosing these new channels, by paying money for a subscription, so these channels should not be “regulated” in any way, and they can do whatever they want. If they wish to depict nudity, so be it. If they wish to run R-Rated movies, the utter what some consider to be obscene language 24/7, so be it. If they wish to call themselves “News” — so be it. Even if they are not.

Marketing experts will tell you that the name can often be more important than the reality of what is being sold. This is why one side in the abortion debate insists on calling themselves “pro-life,” even though the reality is they do not
give a rat’s ass about preserving lives once the person is born. This is also why some corporations have even had to change their name, after major scandals, or bad publicity, or crimes were uncovered. Blackwater, a security firm working in Iraq in 2009. After members of its team were charged with the heinous murders of several innocent Iraqi citizens, the company changed its name to Xu Services.

Name change, because of a lousy image, part 2 — another recent example was another station owned by the same guy who started Fox News (Rupert Murdoch). he ran a station over in Europe called “News international.” They had a huge scandal, when they were caught hacking phones of hundreds of people. It included hacking major politicians’ phones. Murdock quickly changed the name of the channel to “News UK.”

So, Fox News — which is really never news — can call itself “Little Bunny Foo Foo Network” or “Your Mother’s Dirty Drawers Channel” or “The Donald Trump Official 24/7 Regurgitation Network.” They can call themselves “The Official Communications Platform for the US Government Network,” and there is no official to stop them.

They picked “Fox News.” Even though they are not foxy. And, even though they are not news.
