It was $6.89/#, and it was delightful. I got the one that was already
garlicked and rosemaryed, and added a bunch of freshly cut oregano, which
is already growing in more profusion than we could use. I did manage to
find one that was under 2#, and under $13, but it was still pricey. I made
up for it a bit by making the pita from scratch. This wasn't to be
creative or anything, but the supermarket wanted almost $3 for six pitas,
and making pita is not a PITA. I'm not a very talented or experienced
baker, and it turned out fine.
We had the lamb on pitas, with lettuce, onions, feta, and in my wife's
case, freshly made tzaziki (Greek yogurt, grated and strained cucumber,
garlic salt and lemon juice), which was still a bit runny, in spite of
straining the cucumber. We also had Turkish oil cured ripe olives.
This was our son's one night a week to skip sit-down-with-the-family
dinner. He doesn't have to eat what we're eating, or even eat at all if he
chooses; he just needs to sit and have family talking time at least five,
and usually six evenings a week.
If you see that lamb at ALDI, it really is very delicious, not the least
bit muttony.
