Went to Borders today and went through the knitting section and magazines.
I came away with Interweave Knits Summer 2002, Knitter's Summer 2002,
Knitting Tips and Trade Secrets, and Debbie Bliss' Knitting Workbook.

I just love Debbie Bliss. I have a bunch of her Kid's knits books.
These are adorable projects. And the photos of the kids. Just too
cute.
Happy knitting, Nicole!

Does it have a lot of corrections for the summer issue? I would hate to
work on something that is incorrect!

When I was in Wal-Mart last week, I found a copy of the new Vogue Knitting
International (not a magazine I would normally buy). There are a number of
sweaters in this issue that I would consider knitting. One I really liked
had a plain body, with cable stitches on the shoulders and neck. It is a
really sharp, classic looking sweater. Plus, it doesn't look that difficult
to do.

Borders! Just about my favorite place! I've gotta get to the
bookstore!

I mean, that's what money's for, right? Books (magazines) and yarn?
Right?

LOL! You are totally right, Robbyn! (Un)fortunately the pile of TBR books

yarn ;)

Oh I'd love to have a bagel again. But unfortunately they haven't made their
way to Germany yet :( If going to a bagel place I'd prefer cream cheese and

Hi Everyone,
I find it most interesting that there aren't any bagels in Germany. My
father-in-law originally came from Poland, near the German border, and his
family were the town bakers and made mainly bagels, onion rolls and rye
bread in their bakery there. I'm not sure but I think the word bagel may
come from German as well.
Sorry, I guess bagel baking is a lost art in Eastern Europe.

I'll trade you bagels for brotchen (German hard rolls)! My family was
stationed in Germany (Darmstadt/Frankfurt) for three years, and I REALLY
miss the good rolls (and everything else!). Publix's Chicago hard rolls are
close, but...

Aren't bagels a jewish specialty originally? I could imagine that a bakery
would accomodate the wishes of the people around there.
No bakery here carries any bagels. Some now start carrying Muffins (but
those I really bake by myself ;) ) I fact muffin baking is the big hit at
the
moment,

Army brat ;) ? I grew up in Grafenwoehr (to american soldier often known
as Graf town) the place with biggest NATO training area in Europe.

Yes you are right you can't beat german hard rolls. We lived in the San
Francisco
Bay area for 4 yrs (95-99) and bread was soso (I am not a big fan of fluffy
white bread), until I discovered bagels and a health food store that carried
german like
bread. DH on the other hand misses american bread because it was so soft
(he's a little
lazy with chewing ;) )

Yes--as far as I know bagels were originally a Jewish specialty but, happily
for those of us who love bagels (and of course cream cheese and lox) it has
become popular in most parts of the U.S. Maybe the rest of the world will
catch up soon and everyone will be able to enjoy this "delicacy."

Sort of. There is very little food that is "Jewish" anymore. There
are foods that Jews eat, and made kosher, but they are based on the
foods eaten in the locale where they live, primarily. There are a few
things, but just about every Jewish food now is simply a food that Jews
ate and made kosher from the land they inhabited. So, bagels, bialys,
falafel, latkes and such are now identified with Jews, but they are
Polish, Egyptian, Eastern European, Russian, etc.

Ranee

Nope. Air Force. Dad was stationed at Frankfurt from '80-'82. My mom is
German, so we lived off base. I went to Darmstadt Elementary (Army) for
2-4th grades. I've been back a few times to visit family, but I still want

Are you on the Borders email list? If not, get on it. NOW. It's so
pleasant to walk into a bookstore with a coupon good for 20% off your
*entire purchase*.

(What's money, anyway? It's only what you use to keep score. And if
you don't spend it, it piles up in the closets -- taking valuable
space you could use for IMPORTANT things, like YARN -- and you have to
dust it all the time.)
