MADRID – Police around the globe arrested 79 suspected members
of an international child pornography network on Monday.
The arrests were made in 18 different countries, including the
United States, Spain, and several Latin American countries,
following 200 raids in 47 cities as part of Operation No Borders.
At least 19 of the arrests were made in Spain, primarily in
Madrid.
Spanish police said they had identified 16 potential victims so
far, all minors of Spanish and Colombian descent, though
investigators are still analyzing hundreds of thousands of
seized files to identify more victims.
The seized files showed images of abuse and exploiation of
minors.
Those arrested are suspected of finding victims to exploit on
popular social media sites by editing images and videos to pass
themselves off as minors.
They are also suspected of using the internet to manipulate
minors into abusing other minors, before distributing the images
online.
Investigators are looking for connections between those arrested
and other suspected pedophiles who operate online.
