looking for recommendations for deck cleaner for a sailboat. I have
tried many things - but really hasn't cleaned up that well.

Thanks -

If it is no skid gel coat, try Bon Ami cleaner from your local supermarket. I
mix a little bleach in with the water, about a 10% solution, and use a stiff
bristle brush.

For non-skid fibreglass:
We use a weak solution of 'Ferronet' (it is an acid, so be careful)
which is normally used for preparing metal surfaces for painting or to
remove rust stains.
Brush it on, let it soak for a few hours (not in the full sun) and
then remove & scrub with lots of water- if possible use a HP washer
(on non skid fibreglass, be careful with teak decks...)

You do not say what surface you have to clean.

It may be the surface has become porous, you can try cleaner&polish.

I would be careful with most cleaners. They will strip the wax when hitting the waxed
hull and deck areas of the boat. Why not just keep on top of it with a regular
cleaning with a mild cleaning solution, one which will not strip the wax.

I have used Maguires and Mothers soaps, both designed to clean well without stripping
the wax. We wash the boat weekly during the season, including the deck surfaces.

Boy, if you have wax on your non-skid, you're really asking for <slip,
BANG> trouble.

Grease Lightning in the spray bottle from any grocery store. Works superb
on inflatables and rub rails too.

Try Aurora products. They have a whole line of cleaners for non skid
as well as a sealer to treat the nonskid after cleaning. The sealer
makes the non skid a littly more grippy and protects it from dirt
accumulation. I use thier stuff and it does a good job without
worrying about using a chemicals which are too strong and striop the
wax from surrounding areas. You can get thieir products at Boats US
or check their website.

Not really. I have always applied a light coat of wax (before launching and after a
throrough cleaning) to the non skid areas using a power buffer. We wear boat shoes or
are barefoot. Never had a bit of trouble.

Now if you wear street shoes, I can understand your concern.

Regardless, I did not advocate waxing the non skid in my response. What I said is that
most cleaners will strip away the wax when hitting the surrounding waxed areas of the
boat.
