It's not obvious that there's more trees now than 500 years ago. Actually the forests and jungles have been decimated to make sprawl and parking lots for the convenience of the lazy Christians. Take for example the Everglades...

The Darien Jungle (Panama) would have been an impenetrable jungle full of mosquitoes for the first Indians. It was a great challenge to the conquistadors when they landed there.

Perhaps Jesus had it easy because he lived in the desert. I can't imagine Jesus in the jungle fighting mosquitoes. Christians are creatures of the desert and make it a desert wherever they land. Incidentally, the pagans have been called "people of the woods." They make more sense than you do.
