"The bike is a Breezer Downtown 8 with a custom paint job and chain guard.

The bike features graphics by Amanda Dirksen Catanzaro, head of ASI's
graphic design team. Catanzaro started with a clean, "papal white" frame
and added elements to honor the Pope, including his name in his native
Spanish language, Papa Francisco, on the top tube. She chose the Pope's
crest for the head badge, fabricated in brass by Toronto-based artists
Carl & Rose.

Other symbols she placed on the bike include a Cross, a Holy Candle, a
Peace Dove, and the colors of the Swiss Guard. As a tribute to
Philadelphia, Catanzaro placed a Liberty Bell and a "PHL Made" logo on
the seat tube.

One of the most distinguishing details is the chain guard. Custom
designed and fabricated by Carl & Rose, the metal chain guard takes the
shape of an angel's wing."

They should have included a water bottle filled with holy water.

And crossed boughs of fruits and nuts (cockney slang reference) because the guy's a nutter and a fruitcake anyway, making global warming part of the catechism just when the global warming fraud has been exposed and is on its way out.

would you expect anything less from an Argentine communist?

No, but he is no longer merely an Argentinian communist, he's the leader of one of the largest communities in the world, the Catholics. Surely we have a right to expect more sense from a man in that position.

My latest check in the Catechism makes no mention of global warming. Seems
for whatever reason some folks hate him and his agenda. I have no idea of
the people making statements like this but it does make me certain that in
the end.................bicycles are not all the important, money seems to
stay in this world, and the people we touch in our lives and make a
difference seems to have the greatest lasting impact

I am ready for the cross after this post...............bang the hammer

His agenda? Somehow the Bishops elected an actual Christian as Pope,
whether they realized what they were doing or not! Since climate change
ends up hurting the poorest people the most, it's a legitimate concern
for him. Since he has a background in science he at least comprehends
the effects of climate change and is willing to talk about it, unlike
the nutcase Republicans that are falling all over themselves to see how
can spout the most nonsense.

The right-wing wacko Republicans are out there desperately searching for
a scientist that disputes the facts regarding climate change, and having
a tough time finding one. Even the scientist that Charles Koch hired to
lie about it finally admitted that it was real.

A Breezer is an appropriate gift. Perhaps the Pope won't do much riding
but at least the publicity about the Breezer may set an example for
transportational cycling.

I think that it would have been more appropriate to give him a bicycle
with a low-stepover frame given his papal robe.

Christ, I get fed up with Americans polarizing everything into just two answers, for and against. Does subtlety and shades of opinion, and plain Christian charity, get bred or beaten out of you, Mark? You mouth all the right pieties about the people we touch, but how can you mean it in the plain black and white world, no shades of grey, that you paint?

"Catechism" was just a joke. But how could you have missed the press and television reports of the Pope claiming that you can't be a Christian if you don't believe in global warming? We had a rector here, and Anglican (Episcopalian in the US) no less, who said from his pulpit that you can't be a Christian if you aren't a socialist; he was moved on to a less critical parish right smartly and instead of becoming a bishop did in obscurity.

My Utopia Kranich
http://coolmainpress.com/BICYCLING.html
first produced in 1936 as the Locomotief Unisex Crossframe Deluxe, ended its narrow-wheel days in the 1950s and 60s as Gazelle's Priesterrijwiel, the Priest's Bicycle, because so many priests in those long split coats they used to wear rode them. It would be far more appropriate to have given His Holiness a bike he could actually mount without assistance, like my low-stepover Priest's Bicycle, now with very comfortable 60mm wide Schwalbe Big Apples and custom-drawn Columbus tubes.

Come on, Scharfie! The Popester's sudden adoption of global warming has nothing to do with science and everything with maintaining the Catholic Churches' hegemony over the underclasses, who in its care are likely to be the underclasses forever because when they get comfortable they stop going to confession because all their joy isn't in the next world but in this one.

What it has to do with should be clear to you on the slightest reading of history. The Church throughout its history has stolen from paganism its gods (where's the Triniity in the monotheist Jesus' preaching, huh? -- it's pagan through and through), its practices, and above all its holidays. It does this in order to be an all-inclusive church and has succeeded hugely, surviving two millennia.

In fact, what the Catholic Church embracing global warming tells you is precisely the opposite of what you claim. It tells you that global warming is not a science but a religion, something you take on faith because it has no scientific support that isn't at best questionable and more likely fraudulent, like Mann's hockey stick. The Church would never in a million years embrace real science, which is daily open to being disproven, overthrown and debated by unqualified people, that is, by non-believers. It is interested only in assimilating what is believed in as a matter of faith, against all evidence to the contrary brought by heretics. That global warmies want to hunt "global warming deniers" through the streets fits well with the Popester's agenda.

You can get a thousand examples of what I tell you in this brief post from Will Durant's Pulitzer-winning History of Civilization; you don't need to slog through all eleven thick volumes; the volume on Ceasar and Christ has enough examples to penetrate even the fog drawn over your mind by your faith in global warming. As a bonus, Ceasar is pretty is entertaining.

This man is a product of the corrupt, sodomizing Catholic church that worked with Hitler during WWII and is cozying up to Fidel Castro now. He has absolutely no experience in dealing with everyday reality. Why would anyone believe anything he says? Anybody with a need for a "faith" like that is one very sick puppy.
