This message is NOT for John B.(Bullshitter). He should know by now what to
expect from me. No, this is for the newsgroup. Do not read any of the crap
that in any way relates to John B.(Bullshitter). I am posting nothing but
shit to counter his shit. He thinks he is saying something of course, but
all he is doing is posting sissified name calling. I think he must be a
transgender freak as he seems to object to a bit of profanity.

Usenet is now populated by the dregs of society. It wasn’t always this way.
I think what has happened is that the social websites have pretty much
replaced Usenet. A newsgroup like rec.bicycles.soc. is now on its last legs.
Its days are clearly numbered.

However, it is still possible to voice an opinion here, but one should do it
in the context of a message of substance and it should have something to do
with bicycles. If name calling ensues, at least it ensues logically. If you
use a newsgroup merely for personal insult it marks you as an imbecile.
There have always been lots of imbeciles on this particular newsgroup.
Sometimes I think anyone interested in bicycles must not be too smart.
Cycling may be a recreation for dummies!

Mountain bikes have wheels. Wheels are for roads.

Trails are for walking. What’s the matter? Can’t walk?

Of course I know what to expect from you :-) A spoiled little boy who
doesn't want anyone else to play in HIS sand box.

Ah... you mean when you use filthy language and I tell you to your
face that you have a filthy mouth. Yes, certainly. I admit to that.

It certainly is, here you are right in the midst of the dregs.

Of course, rec.bicycles.soc is doomed. After all you are doing
everything you can to kill it.

"If name calling ensues". Terrible thing!

But, of course we have the comment that, "I think anyone interested in
bicycles must not be too smart. Cycling may be a recreation for
dummies!"

Ah, but I wonder, does that little jewel qualify as name calling? Ah,
but of course Dolan the Great said it so it must be all right.

By God! I believe that Dolan has discovered something! Amazingly he
has discovered that bicycles have two wheels.
(I wonder what he thinks the name "Bi Cycle" means?)

Friends, we are dealing with a proven genius.

except for the Taimiami Trail is 275 miles of paved road, or The
Skechewaug Trail, up there in VT. or maybe The National Old Trails
Road, also known as the Ocean-to-Ocean Highway, which was established
in 1912,It was 3,096 miles long and stretched from Baltimore, Maryland
(some old maps indicate New York City was the actual eastern
terminus), to California. Much of the route follows the old National
Road and the Santa Fe Trail.

Anyone for a hike of 3,096 miles, or even a short 275 mile ramble?
After all Dolan says that trails are for walking. So off you go. Call

The above response should tell anyone still left on this newsgroup what an
idiot John B.(Bullshitter) is, or do you think those are the kind of trails
that are being discussed here? He not only wants to deconstruct words, but
he also thinks he is being witty, not realizing that he is just being dumb

Ah yes.... another gem of wisdom from the lips of the great Dolan, who
has been treating us to his theme song "Trails are for walking; What’s
the matter? Can’t walk?" for some years now. Has his little ditty ever
mentioned foot trails, walking trails or even snake tails? Nope, not a
single peep out of his pristine lips.

Strangely enough my spelling checker argues that "What's" and "can't"
are misspelled words. And, again strangely, my dictionary doesn't seem
to list either of the two words and my Thesaurus says "Queried string
not found in thesaurus!" when I query either word.

Ah well...

Now you must to understand that this "non specific" description, as it
might be termed, is not the sole province of Dolan. No, it common to
every con man and shyster that ever existed.

Why? Well, by using a word that can be interpreted in more than one
manner it gives the shyster an "out", or might term it an excuse.

If an honest man should say, "Hey There, what about the Taimiami
Trail? That is for automobiles" why the shyster can say, well, I
didn't mean that kind of trail. (begin to see why I mentioned snake
trails?)

The Great Dalon appears to be using a technique common to the "not so
great", as one might call them. One can only speculate on why he feels
the need to do so.

Hey there Dolan, I came across a post you made some years ago and
thought I'd just show the folks some of your more revealing prose

Posted on alt.firefighters some time ago, it reads in part:

"No one on these cycling groups give a good god damn about
firefighters. They are vastly over rated as a group. Anyone who would
risk their life to save property is a fool, but I have always thought
that all firefighters are fools. Hells Bells, I would not even risk my
life to save another life. I mean, just how stupid can you get?

My God, my own brilliance amazes me at times. I have grown more mellow in the ensuing years, but I stand behind everything I have ever posted to Usenet. However I wish you would risk your life to save either some property or some life, and then lose your life into the bargain. Nothing like being a complete fool!

That is what all of Usenet rapidly became after the first few flush years – a forum for trolls. Why? Because there were no moderators. That is how fools like you came to dominate Usenet. There was always only one interpretation of the word “trail” in the context of this newsgroup. Your feeble attempt at obfuscation is pitiful. Leave word play to the adults.

Au contraire, my good man. He has lost as he was bound to lose since I use words as they were meant to be used – to clarify, not to obfuscate. I am now resorting to insults because I do not like to waste words on a fool. If he or you or anyone else wish to post content, I am ready to argue my positions, but I will not bother to do that when all I am getting are personal attacks. The only thing to do then is just post prepared insults. To spend time on a fool is something that only another fool would do.

Exactly as Humpty Dumpty said, ""When I use a word it means just what
I choose it to mean - neither more or less."

One can only marvel at such an expressive individual. I'm sure that

In the context of this message?

"Bicycles have wheels"? Well of course they do.
"Wheels are for roads." Well perhaps, but for countless ages, as I
pointed out, people rolled them on trails...

My dictionary lists 26 meanings for the word "Trail", used as a noun.
Which would seem to give Dolan quite a bit of leeway when he says, Oh,
you don't understand, I didn't mean that".

As an aside, legal document are so complex partially they carefully
define every descriptive word used in the document. This is so
important that it is usually the second section of the document, right
after the first section that sets forth the purpose of the contract.

Which, of course, is done to prevent the sleazier section of the
population from doing exactly what Dolan is attempting - avoiding
responsibility by saying "Oh, I didn't mean that".

Of course you deleted it.

You see, anything that depicts Edward as he actually is, in all his
naked glory, warts and all, must obviously, to nearly everyone, be a
filthy, nasty, damned, stinking, lie.

A lie? Of course Sir.

Anything that does not depict "the Great", in all his imagined glory,
must be a lie!

Another problem that "the Great" has is that in Ed's world words
aren't definite. They have, what one might call, "moveable meanings"
which allow Dolan to slide them around and claim and argue that they
mean "this" today... and "that" tomorrow.

"The Great" (as he describes himself) also imagines that he is a
unique and superior creature however Lewis Carroll described him way
back in November 1864, when he reported the conversation a little girl
had with an egg.

The Egg says, "When I use a word, he said, in rather a scornful tone,
'it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less."'

The little girl replies, "The question is, whether you can make words
mean so many different things."

Imagine that, a tiny little small girl revealed "The Great" as a
buffoon a hundred and fifty years ago.

The Great that was?

Ohooo... I just love it when you talk dirty.

And of course you must be correct, your rapid attempts for a quick
"cover up" is noted. To paraphrase the Great One, "What's the matter?

Ohoooo Doodles! You are so masterful.

But, tell us, does your mommy let you talk that way around the house?
Or can you only write it, furtively, on your computer?

"Mountain bikes have wheels"? Good Lord man. Haven't you figured it
out yet? "Bike" is a contraction of the word "bicycle" and "bi" is a
synonym for "two" and "cycles" is, again a synonym, for circle, or in
this case "wheel".

Thus a reasonably well educated person would immediately grasp the
fact that a "bike", or bicycle, has two wheels; and a unicycle has one
and (amazing as it may be) a tricycle has three.

But you've not tumbled to the fact in many years now. Tell us, have
you learned to tie your own shoes? Or is mommy still helping you?

Well, they do have a lot of stories in the "Why it is so" category, but a
lot of them can best be described as "forbidden love" stories.

Anyway, the bicycle was a major factor in the migrant workfore. If you
didn't have one, you didn't get around to get the work. Not too many
people had the resource or income to buy or keep a horse.

Something that the cyclists never seem to brag about is that one
bicycle, would likely eliminate the need for one horse. A horse will,
normally, produce between 15 and 35 pounds of manure a day. In 1890
New York had something like 100,000 horses. 100,000 X 35 = 3.5 million
pounds.

One could envision many different slogans based on that fact :-)

Thanks for proving that you are both a couple of idiots. There were roads
everywhere used by horse drawn carriages prior to the invention of the
bicycle. What the hell do you think Wells Fargo used in the early days of
the West? Trails or roads?

Their development lead to the great transport revolution.

The bicycle enjoyed a brief interim of prominence between the horse and the
horseless carriage. Once the automobile came full fledged on the scene, that
was the end of the bicycle as a practical means of transportation. It is
really the car that marked the beginning of the modern world, not the
bicycle. The bicycle became a toy, mostly for children, but later for adults
as well.
