Blackblade thinks there is no conflict on trails between hikers and bikers,
but what does he know! He thinks mountain bikers are polite and courteous to
other trail users, but what does he know!
The solution of course is to kick their dumb asses off of all
trails used by hikers and equestrians. Elementary my dear Watson!

USER CONFLICTS ON TRAILS
========================
User conflicts on trails between Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs) and
hiker/equestrians are historically notorious. Now, a new conflict has
emerged: High Speed Mountain Bikes (HSMBs) are endangering the safety
and user experience throughout the PNF. Several injury accidents have
occurred.
Note that "High Speed" is a critical part of the description. The
Sierra Club is not against bicycles, but we are very concerned that
high-speed extreme sports have little place in a broader appreciation
of the outdoors and our wildlife. Racing a mountain bike downhill on
a
trail used by hikers and equestrians while plugged into an iPod
endangers other users and harms the trail.
The City of Prescott is promoting HSMB events on PNF land to develop
local commerce - good for the local merchants but not for the rest of
us. PNF incurs liability and we lose the safe use of our local
trails.
PNF commissioned a listening session and invited the affected users
to
express their concerns. A report has been issued identifying the two
main concerns: safety and user experience. The report can be
downloaded from our web site:
A new user group has formed to defend the trails system for hikers
and
equestrians: Friends of Prescott Trails. They are advocating separate
trails for HSMB. Multi-use trails are not an acceptable solution when
HSMB or OHVs are concerned. Nationally, injury accidents between HSMB
and other users is increasing. Some parks are banning bikes from
trails, and the Interior Department has just announced that the
National Parks backcountry may be opened to mountain bikes.
The Yavapai Group is studying the issue and determining how we will
participate. We are attending meetings of the PNF Trail Safety
Committee and the Friends of Prescott Trails meetings. If you have
any
Mountain bikers are barbarians and have no right to be on any trail used by
hikers – unless they want to get off their god damn fucking bikes and walk like
everyone else. When they crash and injure themselves, I rejoice! If and when
they manage to kill themselves, I say good riddance to bad rubbish! Death to
mountain biking!
“Tread softly! All the earth is holy ground.”
~ Christina Rossetti (Psalm 24),
from "A Later Life: A Double Sonnet of Sonnets"
Mountain bikes have wheels. Wheels are for roads.
Trails are for walking. What’s the matter? Can’t walk?
