G'day
I recently inherited a 78 Camper, 2000cc that has been converted to a
single Holley-Weber 5200. Unfortuneately, I've been plagued with
performance problems, hesistaion, occasional backfiring, and an
overly-rich mixture. After a carb rebuild, and full engine tune-up the
problems persist. My next thought is to experiment w/ different jets and
settings, but am hoping maybe someone with prior experience dealing with
this model carb on a 2000 could shed any light.
Input appreciated,
Lance Reed

If you get bored with carb experiments, consider injection that works. My
Bosch CIS conversions for air cooled vw's give trouble-free performance,
with ideal low end torque for the heavy vehicle you are driving.
No tuning other than initial idle screws is required, and installation is
a mechanical process, with no computer.

Gary,
Saw you at the Woodburn Dragstrip last Sat. I didn't have time to talk with
you (my Bright Orange Squareback was in the show-n-shine) but I wish we
could've. I'd love to replace my carbs with something I understand...say,
fuel injection? :) However, I noticed on your web site you can't install it
due to space limitations. How hard have you tried? With the stock FI and
muffler gone there's a little more space under the decklid, not to mention
in the tranny area and *inside* the fenders (where the stock FI computer was
kept, by the way). So far FI pricing varies from about $700 to over
$2000 -- sure would be nice to have FI at an affordable price, especially
since the T3 carbed engines have to deal with short intake manifold and we
know how much that sucks for carbs!
