I have no idea what the product is. Every time this commercial comes on,
my brain protects me from it. The commercial features a woman singing
to the tune of "If I only Had a Brain".

She's singing resentfully, Last I looked, resentment is more of a
de-motivator than a motivator. Perhaps it would work if it were
played for subtle comedic effect, but I doubt it.

The new lyrics

So my kids don't have to forage
Got two jobs to pay a mortgage
And I also have a brain

That's as much as I can take.

Who uses "forage" to rhyme with "mortgage"? How did shit like this
get approved? The client got ripped off and is too stupid to understand that.

That's pretty clever, actually. You've reminded me of the nifty rhymes
Yip Harburg dreamed up for THE WIZARD OF OZ.

I'd unravel every riddle for any individdle

With the thoughts I'd be thinkin' I could be another Lincoln

Supposin' you met an elephant? I'd wrap him up in cellophant.

But I could show my prowess, be a lion not a mowus

And so on...

Wait - you have that too? Here it's an ad for a local 'university'.
And they sing "still don't think I have a brain?"
WHAT? Having two jobs to feed your kids is proof you have a brain???

It's not a local university, University of Phoenix is an online college.
The ad is presumably nationwide.

Well, it's located here, and it has a campus here (as well as more than
100 physical locations elsewhere), and a giant inflatable stadium here,
and you can study on campus - they have online stuff as well, and it's
generally poorly thought of, definitely not the place for people with a

Phoenix's degrees are not well regarded by employers, and not accepted
by other colleges.

There are a lot of incompetent commercial makers out there. It's like the old yellow pages. Too many companies made the largest print their company name. No one gave a s--- about it, they would have done a lot more business making what the company did the largest printed item. In the same way, cleverness can kill a message.

I remember a prior ad they had. Basically the pitch was that by going
there you could become part of the Old Boy Network as they had graduates
in just about every large company so you were sure to be hired by a
fellow alumni. Probably the most honest and cynical ad I've ever seen
for a college or university.

It is certainly true that alumni hire from their Alma mater. I think
that it is also true that the University of Phoenix has members
everywhere...but I'm less sure about graduates. I always thought of
that school as one of those 'continuing education' places where people
that have already graduated college go to take a class or two so they
can keep current with something or expand a needed job skill. Looking
at wiki, it seems they have 1/4million students...down from 600,000 at
the beginning of the decade. The average age of undergraduates is
33...so either people who already went to school or people who waited
until long after high school to start their higher education.

Side note: In last night's debate Trump was asked about letting
foreigners stay in the country after they graduate from US colleges and
he started out sounding so smart as he discussed the need to keep
valuable skills in the country. Then, he mentioned schools by
name...Harvard and Wharton...as if the 'valuable skills' this country is
in need of involve yet more liberal arts major turned lawyers,
politicians, and CEO wannabees. Those folks are a dime a dozen. It is
the doctors, engineers, and scientists that we should be trying to keep
in this country after we educate them.

Harvard is a comprehensive university and certainly has graduated
doctors, engineers, and scientsts. Wharton is well known for graduating
economists and business majors and others.

A good liberal arts program isn't a professional eduction, true, but
those grads are trained to write and THINK. No, we wouldn't want that
in business or any other profession.

I've seen other complaints about that, they seem to think it's racist
because a white girl is dismissing a black janitor.

To me, it just looks like she's signalling "1 minute", meaning she's
engrossed in her work and she'll be done in a minute. People are too

I watch commercials and I have no objection to the principle of
sponsorship. Even if I'm winding ahead, I still catch a glimpse of a
commercial. If it's a new spot, I might watch.

I admire well done advertising spots that do a good job of promoting the
sponsor's product and might make one want to buy.

My objection is entirely to the broadcaster, not the sponsor. They
ruin ending credits and ending theme music. They put commercial breaks
at points other than between acts, particularly irritating when the break
isn't even between scenes or it's off by a few moments from the
true commercial break.

Commercial breaks are too long and too frequent, particularly on CW and
Fox when they might run the show for less than five minutes between breaks.

If shows were still over 50 minutes for an hour time slot and the show
wasn't broken into more than six segments, I'd watch all the commercials.

This is a *great* ad. If you had a brain, you wouldn't want to use a
university that spends the vast majority of its revenue on advertising.
The ad targets stupid people who think they are smart. People who

The REAL problem is the liberals are still promoting the idea that it's a good policy to force everyone into university to get whatever bum arts degree they can manage to get. Meanwhile, skilled trades jobs that pay well and others go begging because there are few people willing to "get their hands dirty." Somehow, it's better working as a low-level office drone in screeching boredom at a "publicist" or some such crap than work a job that pays better and requires some skill.

In a time where we 'old' people are forever criticizing this younger generation for being lazy, entitled, and ungrateful, this is showing that not everyone is like that. Many people work hard and sacrifice a lot to get an education. I get it! I have a brain.

And a lot are spoiled brats who think the STATE should pay their way. Tough luck; Sanders out, Clinton in, bankers ONE, lazy students ZERO.

Honestly, I think most people with actual good jobs who went to Phoenix
Univ did so _after_ they had almost really good jobs and were told that
to get promoted they should have a degree in this or that or some
college level work in such-n-such field. I've known a couple people who
did that and it fits with the way a lot of HR departments read resumes,
they don't really care _where_ you got the degree or certification as
long as you _have_ it.

Yeah, it's a way of weeding out resumes. I've had friends apply to
companies that won't even look unless you have an MBA.

Here's some bad about the University of Phoenix:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Phoenix#Criticism

including:

"University of Phoenix students owe more than $35,000,000,000 in student
loan debt, the most of any US college."

Makes sense, though, when you consider the total number of students
compared with other universities. Not many school have over 100,000
students, much less years over 200,000.

Hey BTW:

LOVE YOU SINGER:
You have an AMAZING voice!
I'm just an ICU nurse so what do I know. Oh wait, my ego is the size of Texas.

BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!! IGNORE THE DUMB ASS, faceless internet, HATERS!!!

YOU are beautiful
Your VOICE is PHENOMENAL
I whistle YOUR version of "if I only had a brain" at work (I'm a neuro icu nurse so it's ironically funny)
So THANK YOU for being awesome
PLEASE ignore *every* *single* stupid comment on the internet (forgive them--IQ measurements are legit and you're >130 based on your vocal abilities alone)

And please pursue a career in music further. I'd love to hear more from you.
Quite honestly I love the message in the song. It's not demeaning, it's encouraging. If anyone is offended they probably have some reason and we must forgive them because life is hard.

Life is hard for EVERYBODY.

Please be nice to your fellow humans.

The internet is not a place to be hateful. Nowhere is a place to be hateful.

Anyone who is known for anything famously or otherwise is scrutinized and it's unfair no matter the setting. Be kind everybody. Put yourself in other peoples shoes. Throwing out hatefulness because you feel anonymity (because you feel like no one will know who you are) is NOT okay.

Behind every internet post there is a person. Just remember that. We aren't 1's and 0's, we are people.

Anyway..................

Back to whistling this amazing artist's version of this song.... :) :) :)

Thank you, my dear. Love you :)

Honestly the worst commercial I've ever heard/ seen. It's insulting.
Everyone has a brain. And if you don't go to school that means you don't have a brain?
"Still don't think I have a brain?"
I flip my TV off every time it comes on.

I disagree...the worst commercials right now are for Chevrolet, hands down.

Its odd because they are competing with Arizona State University which offers over 100 courses 100% online and Arizona's current governor graduated from there.

Disagree with whom?
What are you babbling about?

Dems & the media want Trump to be more like Obama, but then he'd
have to audit liberals & wire tap reporters' phones.
