Rebirth (movie) (3:01 am, Netflix)
How do people get sucked into those weird cult things? Netflix’s new
original feature Rebirth posits a particularly unsettling scenario for
indoctrination: Fran Kranz (The Cabin In The Woods) stars as a
buttoned-down suburban dad who finds himself pulled back into the orbit
of an old college friend, played by Adam Goldberg (Saving Private Ryan),
who convinces him to try out a life-changing self-actualization program
that he himself recently completed. “Life-changing” turns out to be the
key phrase, as a fun weekend seminar steadily devolves into chaos,
confusion, terror, and plenty of pulsing EDM.
This psychological thriller comes from writer/director Karl Mueller (Mr.
Jones, The Devil’s Hand) and boasts a supporting cast which includes
Harry Hamlin (Mad Men), Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks), and Steve Agee (The
Sarah Silverman Show).
