Buttigieg, a gay Christian, is driving the religious right nuts
because of his strong faith. they can't stomach that along
with the idea that anyone would challenge Trump.

The religious right's position is ironic and hypocritical given
his and the religious right's embrace of Trump as President.
No one should presume to know another person's faith, but it is
a statement of fact that Trump is a thrice-married megalomaniac
who is certain in his infallibility and has mangled Bible verses
when he's tried to read them out loud.

Christian only when convenient. His lifestyle contradicts Biblical tenants. And is someone religious when they only selectively follow their faith? He's no different than a "prosperity evangelist."

A tenant is a family paying rent to a landlord.

It's "tenet".

Since when are you religious?

I don't pretend to have had religion beaten into me as a child by nuns,
but Christians have always gotten the story Sodom and Gomorrah wrong.
Supposedly, Sodom was destroyed due to violation of the mitzvah of
hospitality, not due to sexual practices. I'm not looking it up, but
there were five cities destroyed altogether, and the Bible doesn't
exactly explain why the rest were destroyed.

That's in Genesis. Calling it an "abomination" is in Leviticus.

Jesus never preached against homosexuality. That's entirely from one of
Paul's letters to the Corintheans.

So much of what Christians believe their religion is ain't from Jesus
but whatever Paul ate for breakfast that day that put him in such a
condemnatory mood.

In article <1bda8698-d922-43e6...@googlegroups.com>,
All religious people "selectively follow their faith". There was a
sitcom a year or two ago about a guy who decided to try to follow the
Bible's proscriptions literally -- it's impossible.
