I watched:

NIGHT GALLERY:
"Funeral/Nature of the Enemy".
• A vampire (hey, it's Colonel Klink!) hires a funeral home to perform his
last rights . The story was lame and the poor special effects only made
it worse.
• NASA discovers giant mice are on the Moon. Another stupid story.

THE FACTS OF LIFE:
"Kids Can Be Cruel". Natalie tries to get even for Blair revealing it was she
who wrote some anonymously complementary about a jock by tricking a guy they
called "Pizza Face" (hey, it's Dan Frischman!) behind his back into a lunch
date with Blair. It was a shitty thing to do, but I was totally distracted by
the bad makeup job that made his face look purple instead of acne poxed. It
turned out OK at the end when they discovered they loved art watching at
MoMA.

DIFF'RENT STROKES:
"Arnold's Girlfriend". In this two-parter, Arnold must have an appendectomy.
Fred Tanner (hey, it's Dabney Coleman!) wants his daughter Alice put in a
bedroom away from Arnold. When the two learn of this, they run away.

CHIPS:
"Moonlight".Ponch and Jon investigate truckers dumping toxic waste in
the mountains. It turns out the culprit is a member of the family whose
business Ponch and Jon saved in a previous ep. How did that little girl
get sent to hospital by mearly walking past the toxic waste site??

CHIPS:
"The Killer Indy". Jon and his new partner (hey, it's Bruce Jenner!), who
seems to know more than he's admitting, investigate a hit-and-run during an
illegal street race, Meanwhile, Grossman pleads with someone to help him
entertain his nieces but ends up getting a pair of fabulous babes and
thems them with his coworkers. Ohaaaay...

CNN DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

You might be surprised how well switching between these two show works.

I watched:

Krypton - "Mercy" - I was half asleep and didn't give it my full attention.

I forgot to mention from the other day, I caught a theatrical rerelease
of "The Muppet movie." It's the 1979 original. It was notable for
being wall to wall cameos of 70s celebrities, almost all of whom are
dead now. I Think the only two not dead are Steve Martin and Mel
Brooks. I generally liked it, and even some of the more dated jokes
still worked. I have a bunch of the other "Muppet" movies on disc I
bought years ago and never watched (one I've never seen, ever). I think
most are probably still in the shrinkwrap. But now I finally plan to
watch them.

I watched the wackiness ensue thanks to my DVR and NCIS Los Angeles LA (the
'LA' stands for: LOS ANGELES!)

So the DVR is set to record 'new' episodes of NCISLA on any channel in hopes
that we'll see more of JAG.

Sometime yesterday or the night before, Oxygen (a channel I didn't get before
and mysteriously appeared) ran S01E01 apparently flagged as 'new'
Since I hadn't seen the early eps, I took a look.
When it was over, it asked if I wanted to watch ep 2, even though that hadn't
been listed as anything I recorded. I complied.
Then it asked me if I wanted to watch ep 3 off my DVR in HD for free, or pay
$3 to watch it in SD from an unspecified source
I pressed 'holy hell fuck no' button
Then it asked if I wanted to watch ep 4 off USA. I went along with it. It
also offered me the chance to buy the ep, or the season, in SD or HD (the
options vary with each episode).
Somewhere around ep 6 USA OnDEMAND started putting in commercials and adding
the FUNCTIONALITY IS PROHIBITED alert.
So my evolving and learning DVR figured out that if I wanted to watch episode
one, I might want to watch the following eps, in order, and reached out and
found them, one by one, from multiple sources.
That's actually sort of scary.

Hmm. A treasure hunt!

Elliot Gould
Austin Pendleton
Carol Kane
Paul Williams!!!
Apparently Tim Burton, John Landis, and Melinda Dillon are all in there,
uncredited.

But, yeah, otherwise that's a death toll rivaling The Conqueror.

Frankie Drake Mysteries (recorded) - "Once Burnt Twice Spied" (ep.
#1.11, the season #1 finale).
So, the season #1 finale totally dispenses with the "Frankie
murdered somebody in England during WWI!!1!" storyline, and instead
switches gears and has Trudy tell Mary the story of how she and Frankie
met in 1918 Toronto around the time of the end of the war (or soon
after?...). At this time, Frankie was a spy for MI-5(!), while Trudy
was just a maid working at the same hotel that Trudy's mother worked at
as a cook. Frankie's mission is to track down a German spy and stop her
before the spy can do something nasty. Meanwhile, as the maid, Trudy
tumbles on to the fact that Frankie is some kind of spy, and tries to
figure out if Frankie is in fact a German spy!! The contrivance that
launched this whole storyline was paper-thin, and frankly didn't make
sense to me, but whatever. Back in 1918, both Frankie and Trudy end up
out of jobs, so Frankie decides to launch a P.I. outfit, with Trudy as
her partner.
Anyway, while this was all interesting, it was a weird choice as a
"season" (and potentially "series"!) finale, and I didn't appreciate
them dropping the Frankie-murdered-someone storyline! (Now I'm
wondering if they're just going to memory-hole this storyline in season
#2...)
Note: Not only did Flo not appear in this episode, but Sharron
Matthews wasn't even credited!

soaps: Eh... pass.

Blood & Treasure (recorded) - "Legacy of the Father" (ep. #11). I can't
say I was thrilled by the developments in this episode. But we finally
start getting a few answers, I suppose... And I did like the
Danny-and-Lexi-"assemble the team" scene (shitty that they left
Hardwick out of that, and then kept leaving him out!!). But all of the
revelations about Reece, and then Farouk's ultimate motivation, were
weak, weak, weak. :|
The finale promises a final "showdown" between Lexi and Anna Silk,
so at least we have that to look forward to!
But as I just said in follow up to Fred in yesterday's WDYW? thread,
if this show does not "reset" in season #2, with an entirely new
storyline and adventure, I don't think I will bother with season #2
after all... :/

Betch (TeenNick) - Another really mediocre episode - there wasn't even
one funny thing in here, and there was *plenty* that was just annoying,
including even Lauren Elizabeth (who is generally the one consistently
not annoying aspect of the show...). :/

Guidance (recorded off TeenNick) - I ended up watching two episodes of
this, ep's #2.3 & 2.4, because #2.3 ended with kind of a "cliffhanger"
that I wanted to see what they did with.
Anyway, in these, Ryan Rottman's Mr. Ridley teacher character comes
off creepier and creepier, as he even starts putting the moves on Erica
Dasher's Alana (who the heck tries to "seduce" an autistic woman?! esp.
using her father's recent death to do it??!!!), and seems to be tied to
at least 2 of the current female students (not including Molly McCook's
former student/teen mom character). Meanwhile, Alana investigates Tyler
James, and discovers that he was forced out of his former private
school after a stalking incident, which sets off alarm bells for Alana.
Finally, type-A student Hilary (Arden Rose) *snaps*, and posts a 'tell
all' (well, 'tell *mostly*') vlog, then immediately regrets it, but you
know when she tells the Perez Hilton-esque student to delete it, he's
just going to mass-text it instead, which is exactly what happens.

Recorded for later: Guidance, and The Inbetween.

believe that MI6 was an invention of WWII...)

Honestly, I'm not sure that's a good thing. Yes, I would like more of
Mary and Flo, but they shouldn't be co-equal with Frankie, or Trudy.

They won't be, just on more. And there's one episode that's nearly all

He was a trendy actor in the '70s whose trendiness did not survive the

He was a guest on Johnny Carson quite often, too. One time he showed
up in full makeup from the PLANET OF THE APES sequel he was making at
the time, and Johnny interviewed him that way. It was hilarious.

I *knew* you were going to say that!

I saw it once a couple of years ago. I don't recall caring much for it.

Well, twice.

Hey, I figured out how to do 'series priority' on the DVR and moved THE LOVE
BOAT to the lowest slot. :D

Either way, it's probably safe to say that Reece won't be back for a
second season.

On Wednesday July 31

TIMELESS:1x12 The Murder of Jesse James

ANOTHER LIFE: 1x1 Across the Universe (Netflix)
"After a mysterious alien probe shows up the Earth's most advanced
spaceship embarks on a possibly one-way mission to locate its source."

Katee Sackhoff is the star, & iirc a producer.
I don't think I know any of the other actors.

Grade A-, but having now watched the whole 10 episodes,
not all episodes would get this grade.
In fact, I feel some or a lot of people will dislike this show,
and compare it to SGU. A lot of troubles occur on the ship.
The scenario alternates between the ship & earth.

I'm not sure. Probably, unless it was ROT-13'ed. A recent T-bird upgrade
blew up that add-on and it's just way too cumbersome to do a bunch of
cutting and pasting to a Web page, so I've been blowing past that stuff
until I can hack the add-on into working again. In any case, what was
the basic theme of your suggestions?

Oh, yeah, come to think of it, I think I did ROT-13 it, because it was full
of spoilers.

Kill Danny was the main theme.

Have Reece go to prison and the Human Target take over his company, or maybe
Lexi's mom isn't all that dead after all, or one of the hot brunettes that
only got one episode. Lexi teams with Shaw. Stuff like that.

But kill him offscreen. Watching his death scene would be very painful.

To be clear, watching the actor attempt to act a death scene would be
very painful.

It seems pretty clear to me that Shaw needs to be the one in charge. :)

Well, they sort of killed off the alternatives.

Not to get all S&M'y here, but does the satisfaction outweigh the pain?

My guess is that Danny somehow gets control of Reece's assets. "Like a
son to me," and all that.

Yes. Otherwise we couldn't be sure.

They could always just show us his head on a spike after the fact. I'd
accept DNA evidence as incontrovertible proof at that point.

Well, it's not as if Reece thought of Lexi as a daughter, so it's all good.

I don't remember Pendleton for being trendy in the '70s. I remember him
as a good character actor in _Homicide_ and _Oz.
