Alien and Aliens did just fine with Sigourney Weaver, then you have
Cameron's other films like Terminator and the Abyss with strong female
characters.

However, on thinking about it It seems women have better success carrying
action tv programs...
1) IMHO, Diana Rigg carried a good deal of "The Avengers" when she brought
new life to the show. Lots of folks tuned in just to see her...
2) What about Pam Grier in the film Coffy? Spawned a shortlived tv show.
3) Xena is quite popular and will probably be made into a movie in a few
years if the show goesthe route of star trek next gen.
4) Linda Carter was successful as Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman was
another succesful show.
5) Angie Dickinson in Police Woman
6) Charlies Angels
7) Girl from UNCLE
8) Honey West (I thought Sharon Stone was going to be in theremake of this)

Angela Bassett is a real cool badass in "Strange Days."
She and Ralph Fiennes's character have a real cool
gender-bending kind of relationship. If a better movie
had been built around these two characters, it could
have been something.

BTW, now that Demi Moore is an action star w/ GI Jane,
can we look forward to her and Bruce teaming up
in "Die Hard 4"? ;)

Yeah, and how about Sigourney Weaver? Does the name Alien mean anything
to you?

Of course Aliens is my all time favorite, but I also thought Geena Davis did a
hell of a job in Long Kiss Goodnight.

Women can carry an action role. I know a lot of guys who don't think so. Of
course, they also love Married with Children and think it was the best series
ever made.

Meryl Streep in River Wild or was it Wild River.

.

In her prime, Pan Grier was believable in action roles.

In "Double Impact" I thought if Cory Everson had flexed
her thighs, she'd have squeezed Van Damme's head off.

Relax, man. If rdskins thought Davis did "a hell of a job" in LKG,
then he thought that. Unless you are a mind reader...? <g>

In article <rawiley....@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu>,

Yes, she did a great job, and *Aliens* is one of my favorites too.
i would like to see more women in lead roles. you thought right.

These guys have obviously not watched a lot of Hong Kong action films. I
would recommend that they check out some of the movies by Michelle Yeoh
(in the next Bond film) or Cynthia Khan or Moon Lee or Jade Leung or
Yukari Oshima or Michiko Nishiwaki or Bridgette Lin and others before
they come to this conclusion. Hong Kong gives these women an opportunity
to do some incredible action films and believe me they more than carry a
film - they run away with it. It is Hollywood that for the most part
prefers generating the same old tired stereotypes of women cowering in
the corner when the action heats up.

Actually, if you see Cynthia in some of her films made in HK - Yes Madam
for example with Michelle Yeoh or her scene in Millionaire Express when
she fights Samo or in Rightings Wrong with Yuen Biao, the work and
action is magnitudes better and more exciting than the dreary stuff she
has done for US productions.
