It really isn't, according to IMDb. Best guess: APOCALYPSE KISS ...

No, it really is. I'm watching it now -- dubbed in Russian -- and the director stated that he used the Coppola film as a jumping off point. It's a combo of the 1933 film -- the time on the island -- and a Vietnam war movie. No joke.

Dubbed from the original Pawnee? But, sure, I get it -- it's all about
the "Viet Kong". Hell, the script practically writes itself...

You really need to outgrow using IMDb as a crutch. You'll feel better, really.

Nah, it's worth every penny I pay for it. However, in this instance I
was merely looking up the movie's provenance, which is strangely absent.

And yet obvious and evident in the film.

I mean that IMDb never heard of the movie. Pretty unusual even for
features whose release is merely anticipated.

I watched it today and yes, it does have a very strong APOCALYPSE NOW
vibe to it. The film also felt like it was very much an anti-military film.

I liked the period setting because the popular music used is so much
better than what would have been used if it was current. The sound in
this film was done very well.

I was less thrilled with the visual effects as it really felt like Kong
changed sizes depending on the needs of the blocking.

As with every Kong film, I'm entirely unsure how all these things
co-exist for eons when they seem to be killing each other to extinction
every moment that they are on screen. The food supply/chain just never
makes sense for these characters.

I think John C. Reilly saved this movie for me. Sure, it was a fun
action picture, but it also had loads of stupid non-sense in it. Having
John C. Reilly there for comedic effect went a long way in preventing me
from eye-rolling myself out of the story completely.

That's been his best trick since 1933.
