Thanks Charles. I've been looking for ways to avoid working this afternoon.

> CG ENTERTAINMENT
> Edge #12, $7.95

The last "Edge" before it becomes "Vector", I believe. And has anyone else
heard any more on the rumour of a third Compendia?

> DC COMICS

> Global Frequency #6 (Of 12), $2.95

> Hellblazer #182, $2.75

> Justice League Adventures TPB, $9.95

Half-thinking of getting this for my daughters, because they absolutely love
the cartoon.

> Wildcats Version 3.0 #8, $2.95

> IMAGE COMICS

> Aria Vol 2 The Soulmarket HC, $26.95

Tempting to get this for my wife, but I seem to remember that the page count
was rather low for the price. (Does that make me sound cheap?)

> REBELLION
> 2000 AD #1329, $3.25
> 2000 AD #1330, $3.25

Read these a couple of weeks ago. 2000 AD is going through one of its
strong patches at the moment.

> TITAN
> Judge Dredd Necropolis Book One GN, $19.95

Featuring Squiddies 2003 Winner Judge Dredd! :) Also featuring much
stunning artwork by Carlos Ezquerra in one of the best Dredd epics of the
last 20 years. There is absolutely no way I'm *not* getting this.

> Marshal Law Fear And Loathing GN New Ptg, $19.95

<smug>
I'd buy this, but I already have a signed hardcover version.

> VIZ

> Ranma 1/2 Polystone Male Ranma Figurine, $69.95

What happens if you splash it with cold water?

No, there's one more.

I remember hearing that a while back. CARAVAN was the proposed title,
I think.

D'oh. I knew #13 was significant for *something*.

Ah, then you've heard more than I have. I'm looking forward to seeing what
they include in it.

Can I just say that what annoys me no end with Crossgen is the shee,
utter, genericness of their titles. Now, I don't read any CG books, though
there've been a few that have intrigued me enough to consider picking up
the trades, but their titles are definitely not doing anything to entice
me. With the exception of Way of the Rat and Route 666, all the titles
seem entirely interchangeable. If you're not reading the books, do you
have any idea what Solus is about? Or Crux? Or Meridian, Sigil, Ruse,
Edge, Vector, Negation, Scion?

Does the #1 there actually mean anything, or is it just for show? I
thought this was a self-contained graphic novel (albeit a short one).
That's one of my pet peeves, books that tag on an issue number when

If you're not reading the books then of course you have no idea what
they're about, just like with all other books. The difference is CG
characters don't have convenient codenames that can be used as comic
book titles like most Marvel and DC superheroes. "Ethan" would kind of
suck as a title. ;-)

To answer your question though, Meridian is the name of the main
island in MERIDIAN. RUSE deals with mystery stories. NEGATION deals
with the Negation universe. SCION deals with the son of the king. CRUX
deals with the center of the CG universe, Earth. SIGIL deals with a
guy with a sigil (ok, that's too easy <g>).

EDGE, FORGE, and VECTOR I won't speak for, those mean nothing. But I
wouldn't know of a different better name to call the anthology books.

It's funny you should mention WAY OF THE RAT and ROUTE 666 as good
descriptive titles since those two have absolutely *nothing* to do
with the contents of the comic. At least so far.

Personally, I don't see much difference with CG's one-word titles and
calling a book Captain Amazing or Hero or Red Star or Filth or Tales
of Suspense... I mean, they can't all be named as loquaciously as The
Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. ;-)

Book One ?! Bah ! They split it for the reprint ?!
Luckily, I still have my copy of the earlier collection,
which has all of Necropolis in a single volume (and
hey, if they're reprinting Necropolis, we might get lucky
with a reprint of the Dead Man tale). But definitely
one of the best Dredd tales, and well worth picking up.

Yup, split into two books. Titan also repacked the 3 book Horned God into 2
books recently. They seem to do odd things occasionally.
Book one contains Tale Of The Dead Man,and the build up to Necropolis
stories. Apparently, Necropolis Episode One will be in Book Two, according
to the details on 2000adonline.com
I've already got the Tale Of The Dead Man collection, and the original
Necropolis collection, and since this new one contains only 2 stories (3
episodes) not collected between those other two collections, I really can't
see me shelling out for it all over again.
Also, since Tale Of The Dead Man followed up on The Dead Man, it looks like
that isn't in line for a reprint. Bastards.
One of my favourite Dredd epics, but I'm not impressed with this collection
at all to be honest.#

No idea. Anyone?

I'd guess that a comic store should be able to order it through Diamond like
anything else, but whether they do or not is another matter entirely.

For the long haul, though, taking out a subscription through the website
(http://www.2000adonline.com) is the best option. Even here in Australia I
get the latest issue only a day or two after it's in the hands of UK readers
(and around three months before it filters through Diamond).

I was going to mention this in my earlier post, but did some sums, and found
out that an annual subscription works out at somewhere in the region of $50
more than getting it from a comic shop in the US.
I'm not sure someone wanting to try out Tooth would be willing to pay that

Although, I have heard that Diamond are notorious for missing issues quite a

Wow, that's harsh. In Australian dollars the subscription price is about
the same as the cost of buying it through newsagents, and several dollars a
month cheaper than getting it through Diamond.

Blast ... ! Oh, well ... I'm just hoping for more Nikolai Dante

Everyone has a collected Necropolis except me :(

Still, the split doesn't sound too bad, depending on exactly which parts of
the run-up to Necropolis are in the new collection (in addition to Tale Of
The Dead Man). They were all pretty good in their own right, too.

I read somewhere that there are more of these coming but, as usual, can't
tell you where. Jim may be able to tell you once he's had a chance to
consult his log of websites I've visited in recent months.

I was in London for a month back in 1998-1999, and
picked up most of the 2000AD TPB's available at Gosh
then. With the exception of Judge Anderson: Satan,
which I'm now hunting ...

Now that is good news. One of my most liked 2000AD strips,
and far too little of it collected.

Hmm, would you have any word on Nemesis Book Ten
being finally collected ?

Hmm. Now I really hope I *wasn't* just imagining things. I'd feel bad
about getting someone's hopes up.

No. At least nothing I've come across anywhere, although the 2000 AD
message boards might have someone who has a better idea about such things.
I'm hoping that the Bk1/Bk2 hardcover collection is the start of complete
set of Nemesis, though, even if I probably won't get any past Bk4.

Oh, good. I've been waiting for someone to upload the Previews text file,
so I haven't actually seen what's coming yet except for the companies that
have already released their solicitiation info.

Well stop reading the same things I've read and mentioning them later, but
not remembering where you read them!
The Newsarama interview said that starting in Jan/Feb, Dante collections
would be coming out. I'm guessing that 2000AD are doing them themselves,
under their new 2000AD Books thingy, which seems to have hit a few delays.

Thanks again, Charles, for doing this week in, week out.

> MARVEL COMICS
> Avengers Legends Vol 2 The Korvac Saga TPB, $19.95

For me a very light week caps a very light month, since a handful of books
didn't ship this month [that were solicited to do so, or at least
solicited].

A nice nostalgaic trip down back issue lane. It was nice to see they'd
retouched (? ... re-separated, re-done? What's the right term?) the coloring
for the trade. Unfortunately for the Pablo Marcos inks, they sometimes
suffered for it, getting lost in the mix when the new coloring got a little
extra-bold. For a prime example, I would point to the splash page of the
first "chapter". Perhaps it's just my memories of seeing that panel
reprinted (in B&W) in "Focus On: George Perez" years ago, but I always liked
the linework on that panel, and here it just looked overwhelmed by the
coloring.

Odd factoid:
> DC COMICS
> Resistance #7, $2.95

This book is. according to my retailer, a top-seller in his store, the
second most popular DC title. It reminds me of those odd Amazon sales ranks,
"#2 in Beloit, WI"

While I didn't buy it, my retailer showed me the artwork. It was quite
attractive.

The running gag around my store was it should have been called
"Soul-less". Typically obscure CrossGen story with delusions of
grandeur, I thought. Mostly it reminded me of Cyberella.

But yes, attractive artwork. Would we have expected anything less from
Mr. Perez?

Whatever happened to his Crimson Plague? I saw one issue of that and then
it vanished.

One issue came out from Event Comics. Years later, when the book was relaunched through
Gorilla Comics, it made it to two issues, including a modified version of the Event #1.
It's never been finished.

Gorilla lost their funding and most of the series have not been
finished. Shockrockets #1-6 and the Superstar one-shot came out by
Busiek and Immonen. Perez did two issues of Crimson Plague. Waid and
Kitson did two issues of Empire and are releasing a complete
mini-series this summer through DC. Kesel and Grummett did three
issues of Section Zero. DeZago and Wieringo kept doing what they were
always doing and finished up their first Tellos story with #10. There
have been three intermittent one-shots by various other artists while
they have been doing work at DC and Marvel to have enough money to go
back and do more Tellos.

Actually, things are going to speed up dramatically. GCE just picked
up He-Man from Image (ick as far as I'm concerned), and are talking
about taking the entire Top Cow line.

I think that's going to cause problems and make the Code 6 line expand
FAR too fast.

Of the three above, Mark of Charon was excellent, I recommend it
heartily! Solus... if you can understand it, was also very good.

I can honestly say I didn't even attempt to read it.

> But yes, attractive artwork. Would we have expected anything less from

Well, actually, yeah. There was a time that I didn't. But I found
"something" in the final rendering of his art for many years to be vaguely
off-putting. I used to think it was just the credited inker in question
(first it was Mike DeCarlo, more recently Al Vey). Then I thought my own
tastes had just changed and gone in a different direction from what the
Artist liked - like John Byrne preferring to ink his own pencils. Now,
seeing these inks on his pencils, I don't know what I think.

I probably just don't think. :)
