Hey Gang!

Dan DiDio back here again to update you on some of my ideas for the
future of comics!! Yes the FUTURE of comics!

As I'm usually wont to do, I've been thinking about the BIG picture
here

As one of the two most influential people in comics today, I believe
I'm qualified to decide what the future for comics should be!! LOL

Don't worry I'm not arrogant about my job!! I take this all deadly
seriously!! LOL LOL!!

Everyone knows that the Naughties (00's) were all about the 80's
right? You know, fashion was all about dressing like it was the 80's,
music was all about
recreating that 80's synth sound. Everyone is sporting those inane
80's haircuts. Everyone is doing blow again at all the parties...well
you get my drift right?
It's the 80's. But in the 2000's.

Well, we're almost into the 2010s! And what came after the 80's? The
90's right?? So the 2010's are gonna be all about bringing back the
90's!!

So apart from "grunge" what else was the 90's known for? I'll tell
you...the BEST freaking time in comics that's what!! Well at least by
my estimations!!
Anyway I'm preparing my company to ride the crest of this wave baby!!

See, the 90's were about:

1) Multiple covers
2) Foil covers
3) Gatefold covers
4) Lenticular covers
5) Hologram covers
6) Replacement heroes (see: Steel/Eradicator/Cyborg Superman, War
Machine, Thunderstrike, Azrael, US Agent, Artemis, etc )
7) Speculators

in the late 00's we already have:

1) Multiple covers
2) Replacement heroes (see Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Captain
America and there's way more to come from Marvel!!!)
3) Speculators (see: Obama Spiderman comics... )

Do you see something missing?

Yeah, I sure do.

So starting in the new year in January 2010, DC are going to start
putting out lots of lovely *enhanced* covers for all our *special*
books.

We're gonna try do it differently this time though. Can you say
MULTIPLE enhanced covers? I mean some people like foil enhancements,
others like holograms. We're gonna let you decide. Or collect 'em all!
See if I care! LOL$ LOL$ LOL$!

Still in these hard times, these enhancements are going to cost a bit
so we're suggesting a retail price of $10ea. It'll be worth it!

These puppies will be literally worth **hundreds** a year or two after
you buy them!! I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong!*

Hope you guys are EXCITED!! I sure am!

Dan (DiDio),
Head of DC Comics,
As You Please

* Disclaimer Dan Didio does not wear a hat, never has, never will. He
occasionally wears a cap which is not a hat, it is a cap, and will not
under any circumstances eat it. So there.

I was going to get you a soapbox but it appears that Stan took that
with him when he left Marvel.

And I'll eat rat poison if you're right. Gladly, at that.

Being serious here, but in relation to the 'pretty covers', is there a
current artist that Marvel and DC use as a cover artist to sell their
books? I mean, when Michael Turner was alive and well, and even when
he was alive and ill, he was the go-to guy for any comic book that
Marvel or DC felt needed an eye catching cover to sell it. Or he was
hired as the alternative cover artist, say a second alternate rare
cover for only a handful of printed copies.

I know Alex Ross is often used for a pretty cover, but he wouldn't be
as fast as a penciller, since he paints his artwork, and does not
leave it up to a colourist or inker to finish the work. So I wouldn't
count him as a Go to Guy, although I know his works sells really well
when it comes out, either in his own work or on the cover to a book.

So what I wanna know is, who are the current "Go to Guys", the people
that Marvel or DC hire to draw the covers that guarantee massive
sales, due to the number of fans who are drawn to this particular
artist and want to collect every page or napkin they draw on, no
matter what the quality of the artwork in the interior pages.

Well, my slightly retarded little friend, that, is a pretty FANTASTIC
idea!!

I now realize I missed something out of my 90's list that should have
been on it.

********************
8) Extreme T&A!!
********************

OK, OK guys, calm down, I *know* T&A never really left us, but it
certainly isn't as high profile as it used to be!! Daddy DiDio is
gonna hafta bring it back for the 2010's!! LOL LOL

Still, when you revive things (especially trends) you've got to put a
SPIN on it!

So I'm thinking...how can we make T&A even more extreme?! More
appealing?!

That's right fanboys!! **TOTALLY NUDE T&A!!!**

We're not beating about the bush anymore!! Hyuk! I'm talking soft porn
here baby!!

I'm thinking a series of centerfolds, or maybe like the young fellow
above suggested, "triptych" covers of nude female DC characters.

And you have to pay a bit *extra* for the *money* shot!! LOL$ LOL$ LOL
$

I'm thinking a "Good Girl" run by Adam Hughes first maybe?

Wonder Woman (what EVERYONE is waiting for!!!)
Mary Marvel (I mean how much further can we debase Mary anyway? Might
as well go all the way!)
Supergirl (Ooh! This little minx has had it coming!!)
Power Girl (Heh, don't tell me you guys wouldn't pay for this?? I know
I would! LOL)
Batwoman (Well she's a lesbian, and if she's naked I'll bet you I
could make a mint!)
Lois Lane (Supermans girl? Don't tell me you wouldn't take a peek!)
Zatanna & Black Canary (Maybe we'll leave the stockings...ON? LOL$ LOL
$)

Yeah I reckon we could get quite a bit of speculator interest in this!
Ka-ching-ching!

Can I hear a collective "Va Va Voom!"? LOL LOL

Breast Inspector Extrodinaire
Head of DCU (so there!)

As what, a stick figure? I doubt that Gwen is a DC property.

You need to learn to separate your text from that of the text that
you're responding to or trim down the size of the original text.
Notice the little '>'s that pretty much everyone else has on quoted
text? Or doesn't webtv support this.
