There is one connected to the vinyl cutter, but that seems to be on a timeshare with the small laser cutter.

Basically usb printer cables keep disappearing!

If I recall correctly it is a USB to USB-A and seems to be shared as it is the only A one in the space (the rest got chucked as obsolete some time ago) I looked a buying some at Maplin but the price was silly. I have kept my eye open for <£11 but haven't found any yet.

I looked for one to plug in the big vinyl cutter but couldn't find any. Why not buy some? They are about £1 each online.

I have some spares as I bought a few from eBay at about £1.50 each. I’ll bring one in.
I think the issue here is less about expense, and more about botheration. It’s just really irritating and frankly disrespectful to other members to unplug a cable from a piece of hackspace hardware and not put it back.

Members should buy their own cables.

Well done Alex. 10  for the price of (my) one and you actually bought, some rather than point to a possible link. Looking forward to seeing in the space tomorrow. - MTB

Good grief mike, if you wanted to come and collect them from Basingstoke I could have gone ahead and bought some. If not please keep your negative comments to yourself.

Hi Ben,

I read Mike's email as critical of his own link rather than critical of yours.

Hi all

10 new cables in the space.

These are all labelled up.

I am 99% sure the black one that was originally on the laser printer is the one that has ended up on the vinyl cutter.  Another one has therefore gone missing in the last week as the laser cutter is missing one - I was there when someone was borrowing one from the printer for another purpose - I forget who or what but it was recent.  I did request it got put back after, and said I'd buy and label these.

The new blue ones are a bit short for equipment - 50cm - but ideal for Arduino projects etc so here's my idea:  black, longer cables for equipment, labelled for their machine and DO NOT MOVE, short blue ones are fair game to USE, don't LOSE.

Gavin if you do still have a longer (1-1.5m) black cable to spare please do bring it, and I will bring one too. That will cover the laser cutter and vinyl cutter tools and if we can stick to this policy or someone has a better one, we should not degrade our tools!

I sincerely doubt anyone is nicking cables deliberately - it's probably 'borrow and forget' - but it does cause problems and force other people into decisions based on scarcity - so if down the line you do find you cleared one of these into your bag or whatever - please flag it up here and then return as soon as possible!  There are 10 now, there should be 10 in 6 months!  And the tools should never have their cable borrowed.  Simples.

By the way the vinyl cutter and laser cutter are left plugged in - used a short one for both, and an extension for the laser cutter.

I borrowed the USB from the printer the other night for some ardunuio hacking, I 100% plugged it back into the printer when I was done.

What happened after that, I don't know.

Well I don't see anyone else but me posted a link, but nonetheless apologise for being snappy.

So they are just usb a to USB b cables? Nothing too special then.

I have what looks like a spare one here in a huge bag of old cables I've collected / kept since year dot. It's heavy duty looking, blue and about a metre long. Do you want it as a spare?
Best - Richard
