I'm a Gentoo Linux developer, and I've noticed
<https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=310605> about creating a re2
package for Gentoo. I'd like to add this package to Gentoo's repository,
but there is just one little issue.

Are there some official re2 release tarballs? If not, could you please
create some? If you don't want to make numbered releases, please at
least provide snapshots, e.g. a bit like the Chromium project does:
<http://gsdview.appspot.com/chromium-browser-official/> and
<http://gsdview.appspot.com/nativeclient-archive2/x86_toolchain/>

Note that the ebuilds submitted so far use various unofficial tarballs
hosted on github. I'd like to use tarballs hosted by the re2 project for
hopefully obvious reasons.

Thanks,
Paweł Hajdan, Jr.

Do you know how the Chromium releases end up there? I'd be happy to
use an established mechanism for turning a code.google.com project
into a tarball. I just want to find something automated so I don't
have to do it by hand.

Thanks.

I replied directly to Russ shortly after original e-mail, now posting to
the list (had to exclude some details).

The script that pushes Chromium tarballs to their location is internal
to Google. Feel free to contact people there and re-use various bits of
it if possible.

However, note that code.google.com provides an easy way to do
programmatic file uploads, see

I have finally set up a program to upload daily snapshots of the re2
project, along with all my other Google Code projects. So you should
be able to pick a download from code.google.com/p/re2/downloads/list
and use that in the packaging system.

If anyone else wants to use the program, the docs are here:

Just noticed that it includes the .hg directory, which seems a little
unnecessary. Anyone who wants the full hg repo can clone it.

Perhaps. I do that on purpose so that it is easy to update an unpacked copy.
