A few months ago the RBW website advertised 9 spd cassettes from IRD in sizes not commonly available.  Now, there is only the standard Shimano/Srams on the site.

Does anyone know what happened???   The idea sounded good and their write up was convincing.

I have one I bought a year or more ago. It's a 12-34 that starts with 12,13,14,16 which is not common at all. I've really liked the gearing it gives me. Sadly I fear they didn't sell that well and perhaps RBW dropped the project. I hope they will return before I wear mine out.

Looks like Soma has the 12-32.

According to IRD website, they are no longer making the 12-32, only 12-30 and 12-34.

I need to know such things as I just rebuilt my 20 year old MTB 9 speed!

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies and the lead to Soma & IRD.  I knew about the Harris Ultegra's but thought they were high priced.  Compared to the upper level IRD ($90) they are not.

I have enough to go on.

Did Rivendell just sell certain IRD's or did IRD make a special one for RBW???

IRD made Riv spec ones. Not sure they're still in production, but I haven't heard anything to indicate they canned them. Probably just long lead times are iffy forcasting.

A cheaper alternative to the Harris cassette is Shimano sells an 11-30 9 speed cassette:

For $18, it is a pretty good deal. But two things about them. First, there's that 11t small cog that many don't like. Second, I found the quality of Shimano HG50 to be mediocre. It just doesn't shift as crisp as my ultegra/dura ace cassettes. Still, for $18, it is definitely worth a try. Good Luck!
