There have been a number of "attempt to apply non-function" errors with the Mac OS/X version of Rattle prior to Rattle 3.0.4.

I have updated Rattle with fixes that have been tested on Mac OS/X.

I have tried a few times and once briefly saw the first screen of Rattle before RStudio shut down.

Apologies, I had Rattle 3.0.3 installed and did not see your post to upgrade to 3.0.4
I did upgrade but have had the following error:

After running Rattle from the console

> rattle()
R(32862,0x7fff7044ccc0) malloc: *** error for object 0x4024000000000000: pointer being freed was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
Abort trap

Do you get the same error if you run outside of RStudio?

Thanks for the reply.
The error message in the second email is from running R from the terminal.

When running from R Studio I get no message in the console and RStudio sends me an abort message that prompts me to shut down R.

I note that everyone who has confirmed Rattle working on the Mac is running Mac OS/X 10.9.2 rather than 10.8.0 - I do wonder if somehow that could be the problem?

Graham - I am running Mac OS/X 10.9.2 but still having problems installing the Rattle GUI.  Here is a transcript of what I've done so far along with the error messages I am getting - any help would be greatly appreciated:

The package 'RGtk2' is required to display the Rattle GUI. It does not
appear to be installed. This package (and its dependencies) can be
installed using the following R command:

install.packages('RGtk2')

This one-time install will allow access to the full functionality of
Rattle.

Would you like Rattle to install the package now?
