Hello all,

I am using the book Data Mining with Rattle and R.
When running GGobi under Interactive from Explore (page 141), I receive the message below. I tried to re-install R and Rattle, but receive the message again
Would appreciate your help. I am new to R.

The program can't start because libxml2-2.dll is missing from your computer. Try re-installing the program to fix this problem.

All the best,
Saman

Hi Saman,

I had the same problem, using Windows 7 that is, and just received this answer form David Lubke. That works well for me (btw you should have ggobi installed too):

Kees,

You probably need to add ggobi to your Path in Windows 7.  If you don't know how to do that, (one method) you right-click on Computer and select Properties.  Then select "Advanced System Settings" and when the System Properties window opens, click the button for Environment Variables.  In the System Variables list, scroll down to select Path and click Edit.  At the end of the list of variables in your path list, enter ";C:\Program Files\ggobi".  The semi-colon will separate this from the previous variable.  At a minimum you will have to restart R and may even need to reboot your computer for the change to take effect.  Good luck.

Dave

Dear Kees,

Thank you very much for your time.
I tried the solution, but didn't work. Received the same message.
Will explore and let others know if I find something.

All the best,
Saman

I have successfully resolved the problem:

1. Install ggobi from http://www.ggobi.org/downloads/
2. Make sure that its location (which includes the missing xml library) got added to the search path
3. Restart R.
