to RAMBO-announce
Many of you have heard through other media that Big Creek is
threatened with development: the Roswell Fire Department wants to put
a Station there and the City is considering a proposed YMCA along the
frontage--a total of 13+ acres and 500+ feet of depth from Old Alabama
Rd. The month of January will be a critical one for the future of Big
Creek and its trails. Here's what you can do to help:

1) If you LIVE in Roswell, contact the Mayor, your Council member and
the Director of the Recreation and Parks Department and tell them that
you are against ANY development of Big Creek Park.

2) If you WORK in Roswell, contact the Mayor and all Council members
as well the as the Recreation and Parks Director and let them know you
are employed in Roswell and are park user and spend time and money in
Roswell because Big Creek.

3) If you are just a Non-Roswell park user, contact the Mayor, Council
members and the Director and let them know you travel to Roswell and
spend your dollars here because of Big Creek Park and the trails.

Bob Grieco has calculated that the proposed fire station plan requires
slightly less than 3 acres and 1/3 of the frontage on Old Alabama Rd.
Although RAMBO and the Recreation and Parks Department could re-route
the mountain-bike trail and walking path around the fire station, the
issue of the proposed YMCA at Big Creek remains unresolved and the
greatest threat. The YMCA’s original proposal asked the City for 7-8
acres but this was subsequently increased to 10-12 acres—for no
publicly-expressed reason. If the Council gives its consent—with the
Mayor’s assent—the impact on the riding and walking trails of Big
Creek will be measured in miles, not feet.

A Google Map of the Park showing the impact on the green space and
trails by both the Fire Station and the YMCA can be found by following
