Is there a list of Stable Templates somewhere , seems like there is no way to know what is available, other than if someone writes or updates the Qubes documentation .....

or should I expect when Whonix 14 , for example, that there will be a posting here, or on the email list,  with or without any Qubes documentation of how to install it ?

I'd like to know as I stopped using W13 because of the NTP problem, and lack of advise on their forum ....

I assume that we will see a Whonix 14 template in the "official qubes repository" soon, correct?

Or do we really need to manually upgrade from Whonix 13?

Well, you see, I'd  tried to be clear,
I may be missing something,  but how does Anyone   know  what is and isn't or might be in the "official repository" ?

Whether it's W14  or anything else  like  F27, F28, D10   etc

FWIW, W14 isn't  'released' yet for  fresh installing  , which is my plan after  Already saw  that  13-14  guide ..... which may be straightforward but it  beaucoup   steps  involved, and with my luck  and my qubes history I'll fail after step 20  and an hour into it   :)

To get a list of currently available templates:
   sudo qubes-dom0-update --action=search qubes-template

The stretch-based whonix templates are called qubes-template-whonix-ws-14 and qubes-template-whonix-gw-14 (if you don't see them, try enabling current-testing repos).

Install them to get fresh templates called whonix-ws-14 and whonix-gw-14.

Then change the template of sys-whonix to the latter and anon-whonix to the former.

........so is this correct ?

Using that command this is what I see, above:   No Debian-9 , No Whonix (not even Whonix 13) ; I had thought Debian-9  was  "stable" and released ; though I obtained it via upgrade  not  new install..

Guess, I remain confused  when if ever,  will Whonix 14  be available as a fresh install , seeing as there isn't any Debian-9  in my list ; and I've been using it since last December I believe, I've ever read some folks are using  Debian-10  ;   quite confusing  when upgrades and fresh templates  are  ready  ,  IMO  esp.  if there is an upgrade and fresh install mismatch .....   No doubt there is  Some good explanation  but...   Pretty sure I am on the current repo,  not really wanting to be on the  'testing'  repo

The command does not show packages already installed.

Am curious doing this :

Manually install Whonix 14 templates

sudo qubes-dom0-update --enablerepo=qubes-dom0-unstable qubes-core-admin-addon-whonix

Is a temporary enable not a permanent one?  I don't want my overall Qubes system to be on the "unstable" repo track

I also don't really want to mess up  the  dom0  domain  by failing  at manually installed  Whonix 14 ,  which is why it might be nice to know if there is any timeframe at all for when the  Templates are going to be in the main  Templates "stable" ;   and then I'd just wait

Otherwise the "manual install" doesn't look too scary ; but one nice thing about Qubes is one can experiment on a clone of their  stable Templates, and there is no risk to a system meltdown ,  etc .....

PS: pixelfairy  if that command doesn't show installed templates ; sort of matches my output , though I had to name my cloned Fedora Template  Fedora-281  because I have another Fedora-28 that was broken which I've deleted,   would the name matter  as Fedora-28 is showing up as not installed though it is  with "that command"

if you deleted it with qvm-remove, then the package database would still have it. if you deleted it with dnf then it should show up as an available package with that command.

How to know when new Whonix versions are out?

https://www.whonix.org/wiki/Stay_Tuned

Also posted subject "Whonix 14 has been Released" on this list yesterday.

Not sure how we can do better.

notify Whonix 14 release on qubes-announce

https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/4193

Was testers-only by that time. By that time, that wiki page indicated
that. Released stable yesterday.
