Well, let me be more precise. Even though this box came with Windows 8 and UEFI pre-installed; I wiped that in a hurry. Instead, I was experimenting with an Ubuntu UEFI installation, which essentially points the UEFI bootloader to a traditional GRUB-type menu, to which I was able to manually add an entry for the pre-existing Qubes partition. So, with the UEFI-boot enabled in the BIOS, I was able to use that to load a working installation of Qubes, with absolutely no Windows software involved at all. That was a while ago, and I was fairly under-impressed with the whole thing, so I switched back to the Legacy boot method simply out of familiarity, and a desire to ditch Ubuntu.
