Hi,

I tried to update my Qubes system to 3.0-rc1 according to the
experimental in-place instructions.

After the update the u2mfn module (in the VM) crashed after booting a
VM (kernel OOPS) when using the updated kernel (3.18.10-2).

I also tried the old kernel but then qrexec failed with a permission
denied error.

Since this renders the system pretty unusable I needed to restore my
backup (full disk backup - not qubes backup).

While I saved /var/log of the updated system I saw after restoring the
backup that the console was not saved in /var/log/xen/console/... so I
sadly cannot provide the log of the OOPS message.

I probably have this evening/night again time to further
experiments/research.

The kernel OOPS was clearly in u2mfn. As far as I remember the error
message was said something like "assert ... == 0 failed" and the
stacktrace "u2mfn_release" and "__free_page".

Did you updated that template? qrexec permission denied error suggests
R2 qrexec running on R3 dom0. Regardless of that, it shouldn't end up
with OOPS... Anyway if you could get some more details when this happens
(VM startup? some app startup? new window? close of some window? was
that netvm?), that would be really helpful.

Marek Marczykowski-Górecki:
I had updated the templates (I tried my Debian template as well as my
template based on fc20-minimal).

It always happened at VM startup (relative lately in the boot
process). Therefore I had never a working qrexec.

I tried it again. This time VMs based on my Debian template are
working but not those which are based on my fc20 template.

See attachment for the log of the u2mfn crash.
