to Shen
Today Willi and I tested the first Shen to be automatically updated through internet connection.  In future Shen Professional will exist partly in the cloud, with the kernel, concurrency package and a basic interface to TCL/tk.  The IDE will be loaded dynamically on startup.  Packages will load on a call-by-need basis driven by the programmer using the point-and-click IDE.  One consequence of this is that SP users will no longer have to reinstall new SP versions for every monthly release; instead new code releases and patches will install automatically into the working image.

The graphical Shen Professional 9.0 has been a test bed for my ideas over June and July, but 9.0 is really an in house prototype for the cloud-based SP 10.  SP 10 will roll out in late August/early September.

The reason for this delay is that for the first time in 20 years I'm taking a proper holiday abroad, and I'll be leaving this Thursday for the French Alps.  I'd rather not rush this prototype into production as the IDE needs more work. I hope to spend time in walking, writing and meditation and probably some coding too.  I'll certainly be around from time to time though I'm sure the mods can handle the traffic.  I'll be sending private contact details to SP users should they need me.

best wishes

Mark
