Hello,

We are a Startup from Ghent region using Python/Django as a development stack and are looking for developers. Do any of you guys know where it's best to find and recruit in Belgium? We tried already some "standard" channels like Linkedin, vacature, schools...

Thanks for any feedback.

From my experience, much of the dev recruitement for python/ruby
community is done by direct networking, the other ways usually never
works (but YMMV).

I know that mobile viking is not writting "python" in their job offers
and are more looking for good devs ready to learn.

Good luck!

Well, actually, our latest job offering does mention "Python-Django": [ https://mobilevikings.be/en/jobs/software-engineer-python-django/ ]. But indeed, it's hard to find good developers, before the big consulting firms lure them away with their fancy bonus packages :-)

Direct networking probably works, but this means you need to go to conferences etc (a group of us is at DjangoCon in France this week). Another idea is to talk more about your development, so people know that Python and Django are used by companies near them: blog about your tech stack, libraries you wrote, ... But that also takes time (it's an idea we have had ourselves for a long time, but haven't invested time into yet).

A quick note about python/django recruiting: the ULB is teaching basic programming using Python now, in the Master Program of the science faculty, and consequently, lots of students are getting into Django.

You could have some success by forwarding your job opportunities to the secretary there: pbro...@ulb.ac.be

Last week I tried to convince someone at Howest to start using Python/Django to educate. Although there is interest, the slow speed of the school system as a whole probably won't move that much. Great to hear the ULB is taking this road.

Dries (not at #djangoisland, alas)
