I think one of the most important steps is to build ties with other open source communities interested in this project. We can crowdsource the mapping of these communities by entering data in THIS form. The results will pile up HERE. We need to craft one document explaining the project.THIS doc is already public and you can use THIS LINK to send it in your emails. Alternatively, you can also download it as a pdf and send it.

Anyone can approach communities.
Please copy a few other project affiliates in your communication, to add some redundancy in your communication.
Also, make sure you coordinate your approach with the rest of us, by leaving a trace of your communication in the spreadsheet. Use the Yellow columns for that.

NOTE: There is 100$ allocated to outreach for the first milestone, the equivalent of 4 hours paid at 25$/hour. This will be split by those who collaborate on Outreach. If more work it put it, the rest can go as equity for the commercial version of the PV characterization device, or any other derivative of it.

Jim, you already have a list of communities in your bookmarks. It would be nice to have them in the spreadsheet in order to coordinate the process with others.

I am posting a link here to a document I created with links to Canadian Hackerspaces and Fablabs that might also have an interest for this project.

Thanks Jim, I transferred these items into the Spreadsheet.
I think it is a good idea to start local and with Canada. That would serve the purpose of weaving stronger connections with other local communities.

The letter that we want to attach to the personalized message needs to have some viral component, so that it can spread alone, minimizing our efforts for outreach.

I tried to better design the integration path (how people find the project and are lead to understand incentives what to do and how to do it). It might require more work...

Again, this is where we log our time for outreach

Bruce and I did a lot of outreach today, see what's left and you can contact these communities

We should probably focus on open spaces and communities from developing countries. That is because the PV device wants to get there, and because these individuals will be more receptive to a lower budget for development, as well as by future commercial potential of the device.

But this is just my opinion...

Daniel is making some serious outreach in South America. From Daniel:

I've actually been trying to get ahold of Beno, Delia, and Pablo from Fab Peru. I have also sent a heads-up to the Fab Network in Mexico. I've also sent communications to IluMexico and to one of the founders of UnchartedPlay, Victor Ángel (website).
Tiberius, I can add this information to the contact log if I'm given access to.
PS. I'll also contact the Unreasonable Group in Mexico later on today or tomorrow.

We are transferring this activity into the Spreadsheet

We have done some outreach and we are close to the critical mass for the first milestone. See discussion on Outreach on the Forum, HERE
In essence, we got very little feedback from Canadian fablabs and makerspaces. We extended the outreach in developing countries. We got good answer in Africa, South America and India. The conversion to action is measured in terms of subscriptions to the Forum. The conversion rate is a lot lower than expected and we believe that this is due to a few factors: orientation and blank page paralysis. We are improving orientation as we go, trying to understand how people interact with the Project page and lead them hooks for action. As we advance, we create content and tasks become more visible. For example, we decided to create a separate doc for the review of gimbal designs. This will become a deliverable in itself that we can republish on the outreach trace we left behind, and ask people to complete the picture. They will find value in the document and will understand better what's needed. There are also language barriers, Daniel and Marco are translating to Spanish (for Latin America) and Jim and I to french (for Africa). For future projects, we need to allow a bit more time for the outreach campaign.
