Converting QTVR for iPad Display

Good Afternoon All:

I'm moving my portfolio to an iPad (version 1) and have a few 360
degree QuickTimeVR movies I would love to be able to show to clients
and prospects on this device. These QTVR files were made with PTGui
and have the "click and drag" look-all-around functionality that makes
them so cool. Is anyone aware of a converter program or a process to
do this? Would it be better to start off with a source other than a
QTVR.mov file and then proceed to something one could view and drag
around on the iPad screen? Please remember that Flash is not an
option, for it does not display on an iPad. Thanks much.

if you only own the QTVR file than you have to transform it back to an equirectangular panorama I use for it on Mac the legendary Cubic Converter

and with that file you go to PTgui Menu/Tools/Publish to website. it is straight forward. The resulting folder you can upload to your webserver. Now open that URL on your iPad and there it is. This is ONE way there are many others

Absolutely not for iPad

Parsing QTVR for any other viewer, flash or HTML5 CSS takes a lot of
memory and that is something we do not have at all on the iPad.

Even a couple of mb extra usage can crash it.

Perhaps you could use qtkrparse. It runs on the server and delivers
single cubefaces: http://www.erik-krause.de/qtkrparse/

Been out of town---sorry for the delay in getting back to you. And
thanks to all who have responded.

I have all of the original still source files used to make the
QTVR.mov files I'd like to convert for my iPad. All of the blending &
stitching & other manipulation was done in PTGui. Willy, your idea is
good, but I'd like the resulting files to reside ON my iPad since its
WiFi only and I don't want to sniff around for a signal while in a
client's office so I can access a server somewhere else.

So I guess my question has evolved to be is PTGui (or another program)
capable of constructing an interactive "movie" file like QTVR from the
original still capture images that would be viewable on an iPad and
behave like it does on a laptop or desktop computer? The lack of Flash
compatibility is becoming a hassle for something like this. Thanks
again for the help.

Hi Ed, I would suggest you try VR5 Panorama Viewer.
Make your pano and upload it to your website, then access it from your
ipod/pad/phone and, once it is loaded, you have the option to cache it
for future viewing without the need for internet access. It is basic,
but it works, and is free. Get it here http://www.vrhabitat.com/

Thanks, but before I try this there's one thing I don't understand. The rather scanty description of the app says that it's better to use iTunes for the equirectangular images as the native photo album downsizes them. What does this mean and how do you use iTunes to avoid it?
