Why is PTGui unable to evaluate camera and lens parameters in the new (beta) version?

In some cases this is very usefull and it can also make the process way faster.
Sometimes EXIF data is not available and sometimes I don´t know the parameters and can´t create a template.

Is there any way to activate it again?

Hi Emil,

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question. Could you provide the
steps to reproduce the problem?

By opposite to the versions before, in the new PTGui version (beta) I need to feed all neccessary sensor and lens parameters when creating a new project.

Before it was possible to press "cancel" for EXIF data, than just type an estimated value for focal length and PTGui made a first stitch and estimated lens and sensor parameters itself.

Now if I click "cancel" when it asks for the EXIF data the images are not even imported.
Though I understand that´s not the way for a professional workflow with good Cams, it can be fast and usefull for some cases.

Is there a way to enable such a function?

Hi Emil,

This hasn't changed substantially I think. Previously you had to give an
estimated focal length and you still need to do this in PTGui 11, but
now you need to do this in the popup window. Just enter your estimated
focal length there.

The focal length is meaningless without the sensor size, so you need to
provide this as well.

There are no sensible defaults, if EXIF is missing you will need to help
PTGui (as was the case in PTGui 10). New in PTGui 11 is that you can
tell it to always use a certain focal length / sensor size if this is
missing from the EXIF data (just check the 'always use..' checkbox).

Cancel now aborts the Load Images operation, which I consider the
appropriate thing to do.

No, definitely not. Please restore the old behavior. It was always
possible to enter lens data later and it should stay this way. Why
should I enter the lens data beforehand if I use a template later
anyway? Or if it's in the default setting? Or in the lens database?

Yes, I'm with Erik. Couldn't agree more.

The lens database is now accessible right there from the popup window.

But for templates you do have a point. I will reconsider..
