FYI - new deadline for final element14 blog post is now Monday July 22nd.

I contacted Stuart Jones who's managing the challenge as I've been asked to do a Raspberry Pi demo for a Chicago STEM Social event on Thu 7/18 which is the day before the previous Fri 7/19 deadline.

I ended up working really late last night and never got to PS1.  My current plan:
For Thu PM:
  • I will bring the BBB rev A4a for Dan D (pre-prod model, works fine as long as FTDI cable is connected or serial pins jumpered).
  • I will bring my BBB with pnpcntrl.py: Qt4 Python app prints gcode to serial port based on mouse/finger movement
  • I hope to hook it up to PnP's TinyG via USB.
Here is pnpcntrl.py in the bbqt repo:

Here is the status of pnpcntrl.py:
  • Runs on BBB with LCD3 cape and booted off Debian 7 SD card
  • LCD3 cape button don't work with the older June 6th kernel on the Debian SD card
  • I installed Ubuntu 13 onto my BBB eMMC and installed LXDE.  LCD3 buttons work ok.
  • TODO: install Qt and Python libraries and get pnpcntrl.py
  • TODO: for e14 blog, record video of serial port receiving gcode pnpcntrl.py from using finger on LCD3
Thanks!

Hi - oy, looks like some raspberry pi has popped into my life the day before the deadline.  I'll need to put some effort into putting together a Pi demo (mostly already have it from previous demos and webexs - thankfully I documented it in element14 blog posts).

Anyways, just thought I would bring this up in relation to the deadline.  I don't want to just keep pushing it forward.  If Leeds will be ready by 19th then I think it's fine where it is.  But if they need more time, then I suppose it would be nice to the weekend - say 22nd monday.

thanks,
drew

All,

Next Thursday night (July 18th)  in Chicago, there is a STEM social event at the Google Headquarters in downtown Chicago.   The purpose of this event is to connect, create and innovate on the future of STEM education in  Chicago.  These STEM socials typically include networking with Chicago educators and includes live science demos.  They have covered  a range of topics in the past.  For this session, every attendee is getting a free Raspberry PI.

We have been asked to demo the PI and how easy it is to use in the classroom.  I may also be giving a short talk on who we are.

Wondered about your availability and whether you would be up for this.  A lot of us feel strongly about the STEM initiative and it is something we are looking at in a bigger way on the community.

Can you let me know if you are up for it?
