Hostname in InstaGENI

Hi,

I have been trying to retrieve the hostname for InstaGENI.

When I check in /var/emulab/boot/nickname , the contents are

VM.testinstahost.ch-geni-net

However, when I run 

vm:~% hostname , I get

vm.testinstahost.ch-geni-net.utah.geniracks.net

Why is the hostname in a different case?

The former is giving you the name within your slice, which will resolve on the node to one of its experiment-plane interfaces (ie. likely a 10.x or 192.168.x address), and the latter is telling you the name for the control network, which can be resolved from anywhere on the Internet.
