Call for Papers, Competitions, and Tutorials
2017 IEEE Conference on Computational Intelligence and Games (CIG)
August 22-25, New York, NY, USA
http://www.cig2017.com

Computer games not only offer a killer application for artificial and
computational intelligence, including machine learning and search but
also provide a compelling domain where problem solving and decision
making meet artifact creation; both of which can be experienced via a
highly immersive, complex and rich interaction. Additionally, methods
from computational intelligence promise to have a big impact on game
technology and development, assisting designers and developers and
enabling new types of computer games. The Computational Intelligence
and Games (CIG) conference series brings together leading researchers
and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss recent
advances and explore future directions in this field. The annual IEEE
Conference on Computational Intelligence and Games (IEEE CIG) is one
of the premier international conferences in the field of computational
intelligence and games.

We welcome papers related to all aspects of computational/artificial
intelligence and games. This includes advances in and applications of
machine learning, search, reasoning, optimization and other CI/AI
methods related to video games, board games, computer games, serious
games, mathematical games and other types of games. This includes, but
is not limited to, methods for game playing, content generation,
player modeling, and game adaptation, as well as game-based testing of
AI methods. This year, we are slightly expanding our scope to also
include technical and quantitative game design papers.

Submission types and deadlines:

Competition and Tutorial Proposals: March 1
These should be sent directly to the Competition and Tutorial Chairs
respectively.

Full technical papers: April 4.
(This is pre-extended deadline which will not be extended further. The
original, un-extended deadline is March 15. Paper review will begin
promptly after April 4.)
Full papers have an 8 page limit, and should constitute a technical or
empirical contribution to CI/AI in games and be accompanied by an
appropriate evaluation of the work. In addition to regular paper
submissions the conference offers three alternative types of paper
submission: competition, vision and demo papers.

Competition papers, vision papers and poster papers: May 15
Competition papers describe research related to one of the
competitions at CIG, including the design of new competitions and in
particular submissions to existing competitions. Vision papers
describe a vision for the future of the CIG field or some part of it,
are based on extensive research and include a comprehensive
bibliography. Standards for competition papers are as high as for
other CIG papers, and standards for vision papers are higher.
Competition papers and vision papers are both maximum 8 pages. Poster
papers are 2 pages long and describe work in progress.

Conference: August 22-25

Organizing Committee:

General Chairs: Julian Togelius and Andy Nealen
Program Chairs: Clare Bates Congdon and Michael Buro
Publicity and Media Chairs: Kate Compton and Mike Cook
Tutorials Chair: Noor Shaker
Competitions Chair: Ruck Thawonmas
Local Chair: Aaron Isaksen
