Interesting to read about OCaml’s IDEs on the caml-list just now. I think the lack of a decent IDE for OCaml is a real barrier to entry for people trying to adopt OCaml. Therefore, I’d advise anyone trying to encourage language adoption to make sure their language has a decent IDE that makes it easy to write GUI apps!
I have found the marriage of metalanguages with GUI support to be incredibly powerful. I’m currently writing a bespoke business rules engine for a client that combines metaprogramming with graphical visualization of the language I am implementing for them. This is scheduled to go live mid-May 2013.
