2014 PZS Art Call Due This Friday!
Portland Zine Symposium
Do you want to be the artist behind Portland Zine Symposium 2014? The Portland Zine Symposium is looking for art submissions for the 2014 poster, due Nov. 15. This year, we are not asking for a final poster design but rather a concept to make our decision.
If your art is selected, it will appear on our website, posters, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, and any other Portland Zine Symposium merchandise for this year. You will receive compensation through in-kind donations of this merchandise as well as a free small table at the zine symposium.

This year’s theme is “Portland Zine Symposium 2014: Entry Points – Do you remember your first trip to Planet Zine?”
Our theme this year is a meditation on how we (zinesters) were introduced to zines for the very first time.
Your illustration should be a creative interpretation of this theme.
Helpful Hints:
Interpretation: “Entry Points” can be seen as both, the literal introduction to zines in our personal lives (for example: that one friend who happened to lend you a zine that one time when you were thirteen,) AND in terms of a meteorite, or other heavenly body’s atmospheric entry into “Planet Zine.”
Inspiration: Think 1950’s pulp science fiction films and novels, B-movies, giant robots, Martians, astronomy atlases, or David Bowie. Get creative with it!
This year we are doing things slightly different; instead of requiring artists to create a full mock-up of the poster,we’re soliciting sketches and concepts. You don’t have to completely finish the project, just show us something preliminary, and if the PZS organizing committee likes your idea, we’ll choose you.
Also, please send us a link to a your website, if you have one or several other samples of your work (jpgs.)
We encourage artists to use any medium or style.
Info to consider when creating your submission:
We strongly prefer that the chosen artist is able to assist us, after we’ve chosen the artwork, in the process of transferring (resizing / cropping / etc) the image multiple mediums.
The formatting guidelines are simple:
We are looking for a11” wide x 17” tall poster that will also be used in other formats (the website, post cards, buttons, stickers, etc), so your design needs to be visible and striking at multiple sizes and resolutions (or have smaller, breakaway pieces).
Only 3 colors! The design will eventually be silk screened / screen printed onto t-shirts, so limit your colors to black, white and one other color.
Your design should include (or be able to include once all details are finalized) the following:

Submission deadline is November 15th.
