Hello All -

I am grateful for the advice and support in this group. I am very late with providing feedback on my experience and lessons learned, but I wanted to use my experience to encourage anyone that hasn't take the exam or may have failed.

I passed the PMP exam back in November.  In my case I believe the 3rd time was the charm :)

Honestly, I am now a believer that understanding how everything is connected will make a real difference. During my 3rd go around, I did 5 full practice exams from RMC & Project Management Academy (I was previously enrolled in their bootcamp) and countless questions from RMC, Andy Crowe, & Project Management Academy. I also dedicated a lot more time to the studying. The last month of preparing included waking up between 2 am - 4 am and studying for 4-6 hours in the morning; 1-2 hours in the evenings; using Andy Crowe's flashcards, and Praizion PMP videos. I used flashcards at work and/or answered questions during my downtime or when I need a break during the workday. I also had a study partner, but we only managed to get through the Cost chapter because of our crazy schedules; however, we continued to stay in touch and encouraged one another. He also was on his 3rd attempt which expired on the day he took his 3rd attempt. I am happy to announce that he has also passed successfully!

I didn't have to memorize the ITTOs because I finally understood how everything flowed together. I did however memorize the ITTOs for quality because I kept getting confused between Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

The test actually seemed easier. I can't say if it was due to my experience taking the exam or my preparation for it.  I actually finished with 9 mins to spare. In the past I had anywhere from 15 min -30 mins.

One funny thing......Execution was my lowest section in all my practice test but it ended being the only section that I received a "Proficient" in on the exam. Against all the advice I received, I studied the day before and even for 7 hours leading up for the exam. I got to the testing facility 30 minutes early and was still reviewing my notes, but gave up after 15 minutes. I prayed and was amazingly calm unlike before.

Lesson Learned #1: (My biggest lesson learned) I shouldn't have waited so close to my exam to fully grasp EVMs, network diagrams, and  procurement contract/formula.

Lesson Learned #2: Continue to studying even if you fail. I had to do a lot of recovery when preparing for the next exam because I would take big breaks. I actually didn't think I studied enough...lol. It depends on a person's learning style. If you are someone (like me) who needs to understand the big picture before the details then probably skimming through the PMBOK or your study guide then going back to really study might be more helpful;however this will require more time. Dedication and a set study plan is required. In addition to getting my PMP, I finally learned how I learn best and process information. :) I switched from RMC to Andy Crowe based on the recommendations of a PMP who only had 2 weeks to study for his exam. I felt that Andy Crowe was more straight forward but I did skim through of Rita the day prior to and the morning of the test for re-enforcement.

Lesson Learned # 3: Don't buy too many materials or reference too many sources.  It can cause confusion. Which was the exact case for me. On the 3rd attempt I used Andy Crowe as default which includes flashcards and audio. I tried the online learning that they offer but it didn't seem too intuitive from what I can recall. I ended up using the test banks from RMC, Project Management Academy, referenced Praizon's ITTO sheet and listened to their videos which brought everything full circle.

Understanding when to use what ITTOs was critical on the exam. I did a brain dump which included 47 processes and a few formulas that I could remember. I probably referenced the process chart for about 5 questions on the exam.

Lesson Learned # 4: - Don't only just do the practice test....understand the subject matter behind your right and wrong answers. Going back and understanding the questions I got wrong and even the ones that I "marked" and got right or wrong was the key.

This feels like an absolute dream. I am still so excited! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

All the Best,

Ayo Oseni, PMP

Hey  Ayo Oseni,PMP

Congratulations on becoming PMP, and for adding your number in the list of global PMP credential holders and for becoming part of PMP community:)

Further, your story of passing in 3rd attempt seems to be very inspiring, hope many of us will take lessons to never give up be it 3 time or 9999 time of Thomas Edison who invented light bulbs.

Since you have worked hard to clear your PMP, so party hard and celebrate your success:)

Thanks and best regards,
