Hi Gulf Coasters,

I'll be testing out some of the beta versions of of our indoor air quality monitoring and mitigation devices http://publiclab.org/wiki/indoor-air-quality-monitoring in a mobile home inPicayune on Friday. It will be an intimate affair as it will be testing someone's home who is very sick. I think Dan Beavers and I may be able to sync up on this one. But there are LOTS of these trailers in the area and lots of room for other field tests in the area if there's interest.

Just wanted to say HI and will follow up post-op.

Till soon,
Nick

thanks, nick

keep in touch, do you know about Derek Evans and the Bridge the Gulf communication effort?  Ada McMahon and Derek would like to know about this issue, and spread any relevant results you may get.

cheers,

Thanks Scott! I'd been in conversation with Ada back in the day when I still lived in NOLA, but that trailed off for some reason.

The formaldehyde levels in the FEMA mobile home we tested were still higher than I would want in my house ~25ppb but a quarter of the level that they were when I last tested this same home in 2011 >100ppb. The public lab diy testing kit worked well and Dan has kindly volunteered to do a follow up test in a couple weeks to see if the mitigation device we placed in the trailer works.

More soon once we've done the follow up test and will definitely drop Ada/ BtG a line if we have interesting findings.

Thanks again,
N

Hey y'all,

just wanted to follow up on this field testing. we found that the trailer had about a 1/4 of the formaldehyde it did when i last tested it in 2011--which could be chalked up partially to preparation issues (they had the door open) but is likely just do to the slow depletion of off gassing over time. the formaldehyde level was 40% lower one month after we installed the phytoremetiation device into the trailer. a good start but by no means conclusive.
Here's the research note:

Thanks so much Dan for collaborating and doing the follow up testing on this!
