Subject: Choctawhatchee water quality- turbidity sensors added to USGS gages
To:
GULFSTU...@lists.ufl.eduAll,
USGS internally posts a weekly list of highlights- thought this one might
be of interest to some folks.

*CFWSC Staff add Water-Quality Monitoring Sensors to the Hydrologic Network*
- *What:* Mark Stephens and Josh Sundberg (CFWSC-Tallahassee)
instrumented two turbidity monitoring stations in cooperation with the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
- *Date Occurred:* April 5 – 7
- *Background:* USGS stations 02365200-Choctawhatchee River near
Pittman, Florida, and 02366500-Choctawhatchee River near Bruce, Florida,
were upgraded to monitor stream turbidity (every 15 minutes). Rapid
dissemination of data from these monitoring stations will allow for
improved insights on the detrimental impacts to riverine ecosystem health
(in particular, the Gulf Sturgeon) of sediment loads derived from unpaved
roads within the watersheds. Operation of these monitoring stations is
funded through the Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund administered by the
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation as a response to the 2010 Deepwater
Horizon oil spill.
- *Partners/Stakeholders:* Florida Department of Environmental
Protection; National Fish and Wildlife Foundation; Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission; Walton, Washington, and Holmes Counties;
Northwest Florida Water Management District; Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance
- *POC:* Ron Knapp;
