Why does play use BoneCP and not say apache tomcat jdbc pool?

Hello,

Just curious why BoneCP was chosen over say apache tomcat jdbc pool? Is there any hidden wisdom behind going with BoneCP? I have read good things about tomcatjdbc pool so I'm just curious.
