Play JSON Either Format

Yoshida-san's gist references the previous Play discussion which is from 2014:

but there's no record of an issue or a PR filed in that discussion.

The project is available at https://github.com/playframework/play-json, and you're welcome to refile it, but if you're asking why it was or wasn't added at the time, I don't have an answer for you.
