cordova plugin vs ffi

I am new to nodejs and cordova so please correct me where I am wrong.

To write native code in cordova why do we have to go through the plugin route and not through the ffi plugin in nodejs

Does FFI support iOS and Android in first place?

I found out too after posting the question :). You are right - having no ffi support on ios (or at least i couldnt find one) is the reason we have cordova plugins
