phonegap build and apk expansion problems

What is the best way to implement apk expansion files, plugins do not seem to work? <plugin spec="https://github.com/agamemnus/cordova-plugin-xapkreader.git" /> seems to break the android build? I have been using this tutorial Adding an Android APK Expansion File to a Cordova Project – iPhone Dev Log

 

Any direction would be great
