percona cluster required load balancer

Hi all,
I am trying percona cluster , i have few queries .
1. if we configure percona cluster then why we need load balancer like haproxy ?
2. can we use 2 node cluster

You need a load balancer if your application can't detect the state of a particular cluster member and to avoid split brain they recommend no less than three.
