We call StartPrintJob to print a small 4-page PDF file (approx 24
KB) we have generated from PDFTRON. This is initiated on Computer A,
which reads the PDF from computer B, and prints to a printer on
computer C. Printer is PCL. At some point along the way users began
complaining this was slow. That is, it seems to take at least 5
seconds to begin printing, and 15-20 second delay between each
page. We can not attribute the slowdown to system changes or
software upgrades because we did not notice when this problem first
began.
Also, how does PDFViewCtrl.Print() differ from
pdftron.PDF.Print.StartPrintJob ? The reason for asking is in the
same environment, run from the same computer, under the same user
logon, using the same PDF file, StartPrintJob works at a snail's
pace for us, including job startup, and also delays between each of
the 4 pages, but the PDFViewCtrl.Print() function works immediately
with no delay between pages. It may be key to understanding how
PDFViewCtrl works to understanding why it is so much faster for us.
MORE INFORMATION
An OLD version of our software calling StartPrintJob was installed
at the same computer, running under the same username, and it prints
immediately. This was linked to PDFNET version 6.3.2.27751. The one
running slow is linked to 6.6.0.38991. (FWIW Our PDFViewCtrl.Print
test was linked to 6.6 as well).
