those two are taken at an elevation of almost 4.000 m (13.000 feet) and the light was very special. In the second one, the sunset came right when the moon was rising ...

I like your kids casting shadows too.

Here's a pic I took last night just after Antares (in Scorpio) emerged from behind the moon during occulation.



Taken using 10X optical + 2.2 times Digital zoom (hence fuzziness), on tripod, outside back door. 1/64th f8 iso 100 eq. on FujiS5600 at 11.31 GMT.

A less common shot of the moon, this one I just uploaded is from 2005 when there was a near-occulation of Venus by the moon, visible in broad daylight. Image is a bit small, but that's life.

The large pic of the moon was taken with a Canon S2 hand held, but propping myself against a wall. The second a pic of the moon and a vapour trail fron an aircraft.

And the moon with a Canon PowerShot SX1 IS and again hand held

Still learning the lens and camera. Even with a tripod it's a 30 to 1 ratio to get a good picture. So here are a couple I've managed to get.

For full moon try spot meter and a negative EV value to avoid overexposure.

It is quite difficult to get a moon shot from on board a boat. Even a tripod won't help with long exposures. This is my best to date.

This one was the best I could shot so far. I used a 135mm and a nikon D40. Since I am a beginner I hope to improve. Thanks for some tips here!

Brian, treat it like a brightly sunlit object. For a full moon I often use f8 at 1/800th of a second. Work around from that value until you find one you are happy with.

As to my better moon shots, I got this one recently - Just a small pinch of the moon.

Total Lunar Eclipse, 28th August 2007


The Total Lunar Eclipse on August 28th 2007 will be visible in its entirety for all of Eastern Australia and New Zealand, and will be in progress at Moonrise for the remainder of Australia and most of Asia. It will be visible at Moonset for the Americas, and will not be visible at all for Africa, Europe and Western Asia.



All types of Lunar Eclispe are completely safe to observe with the unfiltered and unaided eye.
