Team Leader Archaeology and Indigenous Partnerships

Kayandel is seeking Expressions of Interests for the role of Team Leader Archaeology and Indigenous Partnerships.  This role requires someone with a track record for successful completion and delivery of Aboriginal Heritage projects in a commercial environment and a passion for building capacity and technical skills in Aboriginal communities and empowering Aboriginal people to actively participate in Aboriginal Heritage Management.

This unique position leverages of existing commercial arrangements and relationships with Indigenous Representative Bodies and is an opportunity to showcase the future of Aboriginal cultural heritage practice in New South Wales.

Candidates should possess an Honours Degree in Archaeology or Prehistory (or equivalent) and have in excess of 5 years’ experience in archaeological consultancy (preferably in NSW).  The individual we are looking for will be able to work independently on multiple projects in a variety of roles and maintain operation control of projects when in the field.  A strong knowledge of the NSW Aboriginal heritage regulatory environment and a strong commitment to genuine engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders is highly desirable.

Key criteria include:

  • An excellent working knowledge of statutory requirements for Aboriginal heritage focusing on NSW;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and writing reports within the NSW Aboriginal Heritage Assessment Framework;
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Project management (including preparation of tenders); and
  • The ability to perform within time and budgetary constraints.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of heritage policy and procedure with an emphasis on compliance systems
  • A manual driver’s license

Desirable Criteria include:

  • Working knowledge of ARCGIS or other similar GIS software
  • Eligibility for or existing Membership of either ICOMOS and/or AACAI.
  • Professional references from Aboriginal stakeholders/organisations (see below);
  • Documented training and or experience in a specialist area such as Rock Art, Lithic Analysis, Geo-archaeology,
  • Experience in the use of Differential GPS

This location for this role is flexible although some travel to regional NSW and interstate should be expected.

Professional credibility with Aboriginal stakeholders is highly valued.  As part of your CV please include contact details for two (2) Aboriginal representative organisations that you have worked in partnership during the last two years that would be willing to provide referee statements.
