Chief Operating Officer
ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage
The University of Wollongong (UOW)
Full Time, Fixed Term (5 year) Appointment
Applications close 31 January 2017
UOW is the administering organisation of the new ARC Centre of Excellence for Australian Biodiversity and Heritage (CABAH), which includes partners from Australian universities and a range of national and international partner organisations. The Chief Operating Officer reports to the Centre Director.
The Centre will commence operations in June 2017, with significant funding from the ARC, NSW Government and participating universities, museums, and organisations. These will support around 40 new research positions and more than 50 new research students over the 7-year life (subject to a review after 3.5 years) of the Centre.
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the effective strategic and operational management of CABAH and to assist the CABAH executive leadership team in the successful implementation of the Centre's aims to:
- Transform our understanding of Australia's ancient Indigenous heritage and environmental past;
- Revolutionise the nation's capabilities to investigate the processes that shaped this continent and the story of its inhabitants by creating a new and genuinely transdisciplinary research environment;
- Help future-proof Australia's unique biodiversity and cultural heritage using our improved understanding of that legacy; and
- Tackle the research and innovation challenges facing Australia by equipping a new generation of researchers with the range of skills needed to traverse the interface between STEM and HASS disciplines.
The successful candidate will have highly developed organisational skills, a strong track record in project management, be open to new concepts and challenges, and able to deliver marketing initiatives and PR activities to profile the Centre's activities to diverse audiences.
The COO will be required to manage complex inter-organisational partnerships and work collegially in an environment with competing demands from a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, both nationally and internationally. We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven team leader to play an instrumental role in this unique and exciting ARC Centre of Excellence.
