Responsibilities

The Heritage Officer – Placenames Project reports to the Team Leader of Language, Culture and Heritage to deliver the IBN Placenames Project objectives. The IBN Placenames Project will conserve and promote three endangered Pilbara Aboriginal languages through research, field work, archiving, digital mapping and database development of important Aboriginal placenames.

Essential Candidate Requirements

Knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture

Ability to work with Aboriginal people in a culturally appropriate manner

A thorough understanding of Aboriginal people and communities

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite

A current Class C driver's license and 4WD experience

Demonstrable project management and survey experience

Desirable skills, attributes and experience

Able to work autonomously with good organisational and time management skills

Digital mapping, language and cultural documentation skills

Database proficiency

Excellent report writing and communication skills
